(I hear she still grants forgiveness)

Spent roughly four hours screencapping The Ark in Space for part two of the great big ongoing Harry!spam. For some reason, my caps this go seemed to turn out even more shitty than before. I don't know why, I didn't do anything different from before. ::sigh:: I hate capping in VLC.

I'm continuing to nestle happily in my vintage!Who obsession. I like it here - a girlie could stay forever, if she wished.
Which is most likely why I found myself, on this rather warm, early fall day, contemplating different Doctors & their bedrooms. O, no, I don't mean it like that, I mean I was merely contemplating how would they all decorate & furnish their boudoirs throughout each regeneration. I couldn't imagine them all sleeping in the same room they preferred in their last cycle, or even in the same physical setting - how dull! I'm sure each of them had such maddeningly different tastes & aesthetics that they'd just have to redecorate when they regenerated, don't you?
& as you might imagine, whilst reflecting on such matters, my attention turned to the sort of room I'd prefer to live my days in - I just hate the way my room is now - it's neat, but it is so incredibly dull & boring. It's even worse at night, because there is simply nothing to ever look at! It's horrible.
My ideal room (& o, come now, how can this be ideal if it could probably be achieved if one invests a little effort & such things?), I think, well, rather, has always been, since I was a tiny thing & could see such similar things, very much like Inara Serra's shuttle in Firefly. Lots of dense, silky curtains all around the room, fat, full piles of pillows on the floors & all across the furniture. Only where Inara favoured reds & golds & darker, earthier, more sensual colourings, mine would be populated by the richest blues & pinks & purples & silvers, with maybe a touch of light, opalescent green silkiness in places, just to liven my room up even more. I'd adore the ceiling to have a beautiful spacescape, maybe something very similar to this, only minus the TARDIS, of course! (though I would make such a commission on the grounds that it had to look as three-dimensional as possible - a piece that, if you stand far away from it, or aren't expecting it, looks almost like it exists in the physical realm - a bit of a mind game, for myself & for my visitors!
I'd enjoy the idea of instead of having a silly traditional sort of bed, to have a great big round one, but hopefully it wouldn't be as tacky as those ugly, tasteless things they have in honeymoon suites! A round bed is far superior to a rectangular, commonplace one, I think - you'd be less likely to outgrow it, if you should still be growing. Also, there's be less danger in falling out of a round bed if you're prone to night terrors as some people are. & of course, should you find yourself entertaining a guest, a round bed would probably have far more space for each of you to sleep, possibly without ever having to come in contact with each other, should that be your intention. (if not, well, you'd still have plenty of room to move around on a round bed!)
(& also, I rather adore the symbolism of a circular bed in one's room.)
Though it would be hard to find nice sheets & bedding for a circular bed - you'd have to have everything custom made, since I don't think that they make fitted sheets for circle-shaped beds. (though a circular fitted sheet would be far easier to fold than those rather troublesome rectangular ones!) & having satin sheets custom made would be expensive, unless you're quite good at making things like this! Then you'd only have to worry about the fabric.
Of course, in my room, I would go just one step beyond a simple circular bed. All my life, I've wished for a canopy bed, or one with curtains all around it - those sorts of beds are just so beautiful! & if you enjoy your bed, you'll sleep better, I think. But in my case, I'd love the bed to have a gazebo-inspired overhead - a white tipped wooden roof, with the bed in the center, of course, & white, almost transparent curtains on every side. Having little low side walls, like a proper gazebo would be even more wonderful!
& if one truly wanted a gazebo-esque setting, you could find a way to add teeny flowerboxes at the top & grow jasmine & honeysuckle in them. Imagine having a wreath of real honeysuckle&jasmine about your head as you slept - you'd never need incense or sleeping pills again!
If I had a room like this, I would not mind being in it most of the time. A prison is still a prison nevertheless, even with the finest silks & satins, but this would be a lovely one indeed.
(& o, because I am such a silly girlie as you well know, I couldn't resist the urge to babble about the Doctor's boudoir for a bit!)
Three gave me the initial thought in the first place - blame him for all of the past rambling you just witnessed! But I must admit, it was quite fun envisioning how Three would have decorated his room. I'm a bit boring on the whole matter, admittedly - I see his room being madly ornate & rich, both in design & colour scheme. On a whole, I pictured it being designed in a very Victorian-esque way - lots of wrought iron furniture, overstuffed, winged, plush sorts of chairs & this insanely inviting looking bed, exquisitely made up (::giggle:: I do think Three's the sort that would insist on making up his own bed in the mornings, because no one could ever make it up just they way he likes it. Though he may humour Sarah Jane & let her join him in making up the bed every now & again.) with pure satin & silk sheets & a deliciously warm bedspread over all of it, perhaps with a black velvet duvet on top?
(well, Three does love his velvet & silks & satins. I think it's only natural for him to sleep on such things as well! Though, being a silly girl, I like to think that Sarah would have insisted on a cotton bedspread after a while - the original is just far too warm for her! But Three would have made it an Egyptian cotton bedspread, of course! Would you really expect a Time Lord to sleep on anything less?)
Four's was far more fun to imagine. Four's room would be so difficult to pin down though, or at least, that;s how I feel about it. I pictured it as . . . well, actually, I haven't so much pictured it as merely thought about the decor. Four's decor, I think, would border on slightly Firefly-esque - lots & lots of different styles & influences from Earth & other worlds all mixed together, but Earth would of course, play a fairly clear role in how he decorates. His room wouldn't be the neatest of all ten regenerations either - I mean, he would try & keep it tidy, but there are many, many books to be read, cups of tea to drink, things to share with Romana, bits & bobs of TARDIS machinery he needs to get around to replacing, a jacket or two over a chair, the scarf draped over the bed & (rather annoyingly so) tickling Romana's nose whilst she tries to sleep . . . you know, things like that. Not so much sloppy, messy or untidy, but more on the side of characteristic. His room would be very much like Four himself, basically - well-worn, full of fascinating things, a bit rough around the edges, yet incredibly inviting to the lucky few ushered in.
For some reason, I could see Four embracing the simple-yet-comfy sorts of bedding - lots of mismatched cotton sheets & pillows! The wonderful, loved & worn kind that are practically threadbare in places & you know you should replace it, but you just can't bring yourself around to tossing them in the rubbish. But I think Four would quite like his pillows, for some reason - he would secretly collect them, both out of love & sometimes to annoy Romana, since she likes to complain that there is just no room for them & that massive pillow collection! (& maybe to annoy him right back, she'd incite a pillow fight some mornings! But he loves being playful with her, so he never minds it, even when feathers go all over.)
Well, I DID feel guilty for not even contemplating how One, Two, Eight, Nine & Ten would do it, even if I haven't really met One, Two & Eight (YET! One's next on my list to see & I may be picking up The Three Doctors this weekend.), but speculation is always fun, isn't it?
One - For some reason, I see his colour scheme as being a lot of black & white & maybe some navy blue - very strong, mature, confident colours. He's not one for frills & fussy things like that, preferring functionality to asceticism. Also, I get the sense that One is very tidy - no stray books or teacups on his dressing tables! (but there might be a sweets stash in his bedside table - I wouldn't know. Ask Susan!)
Two - Hmm - I call a cheerful, playful, yet mature sort of decor - simplicity, but I doubt you'd consider it so boring you'd never go in there. Maybe a blending of One & Four, but with the more extreme characteristics of both removed.
Eight - Okay, first let me say that while I've yet to meet Eight, I have such a huge crush on him - he reminds me of a younger version of Three & also, I think he looks a bit like Oscar Wilde. (squeal!) So Eight's room is one I enjoy speculating about. (o, what of it?) I see his design scheme as being similar to Three's but softer around the edges - more polished wood in place of wrought-iron. Less chairs, however - he has maybe two, but they're still quite nicely crafted. For colours, I'd envision lots of blacks, whites, browns, burgundies & maybe some golds. He likes calm things.
Nine - bare. Nothing but the bed & the nightstand.
Ten - not anything like any of his past regenerations - his would be not quite as bare as Nine's, I think, but still somewhat austere, but in an elegant way - it calms his mind when he needs it. Though I think he's got piles of books by his bed & definitely teacups he hasn't got around to putting back in the kitchen. But he keeps his room tidy, with the exception of his coat over the chair.
(& I say he keeps snaps of Rose & some of Martha in his bedside drawer. In the very back, in a little box once given to him by Romana. It's his way of remembering three of the people that meant the most to him in almost a thousand years.)
(o, darlings, will you forgive me for leaving Five, Six & Seven out?) I can't stand Five or Six, & Seven I know absolutely nothing about, other than his companion Ace is one I NEED to meet.)
