So! Against all better judgement Out of curiosity, I watched the pilot of the US version of Life On Mars tonight.

- I'm tempted to play 'Spot the ripped off scenes from the original Life On Mars!' because there are SO many. I haven't watched much television in recent years, so is that an acceptable practice for American remakes of things?

- Okay, why are Sam & Maya discussing their personal life WHEN THEY'RE ON THEIR WAY TO BUST A SUSPECTED MURDERER? TIME & PLACE, FOLKS, SERIOUSLY. The office is fine, but NOT when you're actually working!

- Wow, way to give away all of Sam's original dialogue to Maya. That's a great way to make Jason O'Meara look even more like a total gap-mouthed twit.

- Since when did Maya need to prove anything to Sam? WHAT BULLSHIT IS THAT?

- The scene where Sam wakes up in 1973? That was such . . . gah, I hated it. It was way too CGI, way too flashy, too sudden, even for the accident & too cold. & hearing Bowie's Life On Mars just made me sad, but not in the good way - more like, 'why are you ruining my song with this crappy rip-off?'

- Seeing this totally crappy Sam dressed almost exactly like the original one? UGH, NO, PLEASE, MAKE IT GET THE FUCK OUT.

- The scene where Sam actually arrived at the station . . . no, I'm sorry, but that was just bad. & GAH, Chris & Ray? NO. Just . . . I have no words. DO NOT WANT.

(also, I admit, I find Chris marginally attractive in the original. Here, no fucking way.)

- HARVEY KEITEL. O, Harvey, how I do so love you. But even with Harvey as Gene Hunt, I'm still not enjoying this whatsoever. & unlike in the original, I didn't feel that either of these characters had any chemistry in their first meeting at all.

- The punch up scene in Gene's office just made me go 'eh', rather than 'oo' like it did in the original. It wasn't engaging & if I hadn't seen the original, I would have just thought, 'wow, Gene Hunt is a dick of the highest order.'

- Annie NORRIS? UM? Okay, I can accept this Annie as NOT being anything like Annie Cartwright. But I draw the line at accepting this series any further. Though I don't find her likeable like I did Annie Cartwright.

- I hate Ray & Chris. Just, seriously, I do.

- WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS RIPPING OFF THE HEART BEATING SCENE FROM THE FINALE O NO YOU BITCHES DIDN'T. FUCK YOU. & wow, way to set up the blatant Sam/Annie they're stuffing into this rip-off! KILL ME NOW.

- I'm sorry, but watching Jason O'Meara try to be anything like John Simm is making me cringe. I just don't buy it whatsoever. In the first thirty minutes, John Simm had me almost crying. Jason O'Meara . . . no. I don't buy it & I have absolutely no interest in this character the way he plays it. Also, I find him rather wooden in the actual acting department. He has no tone! Everything is just in the same tone no matter if he's angry or sad. Inflection is a nice thing!

- ::sigh:: This isn't fun at all - this is just getting painful. & I think all the Sam/Annie overtones in the scene where Sam was attempting to map out the killer's state of mind was really inappropriate. There's a time & a place for this shit, that scene was NOT the place.

- Well, isn't this Annie a class-A bitch? Way to get all bitchy with Sam for actually, you know, honouring her intelligence & not treating her like a sex fantasy in a police uniform.

- The attempted humour in this isn't funny, just cringe-worthy.

- ::sigh:: The original didn't lay the Wizard of Oz allusions THAT heavily, at least, I'm pretty sure it didn't. But this one is just going to beat us over the head with it, isn't it?

- The record shop scene made me sad to see. I liked that scene in the original, but seeing it so poorly copied in this was depressing.

- Jesus, looking at this version of Sam dressed like my version? Makes me laugh, & not in a nice way. O, bb, John Simm you are simply not, even in the clothes.

- Aww, Harvey may be the one decent spot in this pile of crap. ::hugs him:: But still, he's not my Gene Hunt. He's talented & I've loved him since Reservoir Dogs, but no, not my Gene Hunt.

- The music in this isn't too bad, but I don't think it's the same they they used in the original, right? I need to rewatch the first ep again.

- O. MY GOD. So instead of Sam trying to jump off a building, he's going to let his collar shoot him? . . . . No, sorry, Sam Tyler had ONE chance to do that & that's in episode seven, I think. NOT IN THE FIRST ONE YOU MORONS.

- Yeah, I don't like Annie here at all. She's not even trying to be nice to Sam, I feel, she's just being a master bitch to him. I mean, if you think someone's totally off their nuts, shouldn't you TRY & be a little compassionate to them, even if it means humouring them a bit? This Annie doesn't humour Sam at all, she's just bitchy & short to him. Annie isn't supposed to be like that.

- ::sighs again:: Jason O'Meara is just AWFUL, I'm sorry. I did try to keep an open mind about him, but just . . . he can't fucking act! He's so wooden & unconvincing & he's just draining the life out of Sam Tyler & out of me, for that matter - I just don't care about this character at all.

- UGH, THE PREVIEW FOR NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE. 1x02 is one of my top favourite Life On Mars episodes & the way they're remaking it . . . it looks like SHIT. Flaming, burning shit. Yeah, so NOT checking that out - I've suffered, tried to keep an open mind & it didn't work.

Okay, folks, that's it for me. I tried to like it, I really did, but . . . no. I just spent most of it yelling at the tellyvision & sighing loudly. I'm impressed that I made it thought the whole thing, actually. Now where's the booze, so I can forget this tripe?

Mmm, now I have a headache. Stupid show, making me pop blood vessels with its idiocy!

Also, before Life On Mars, I watched Supernatural! I haven't watched it since the first three eps of season three, so that was . . . kind of nice. A little too gory for me though. Ugh. & the previews for Gossip Girl reminded me why I don't watch mainstream American television any more - IT'S SHIT. (but then again, I hate Gossip Girl, so maybe I'm a bit biased.)

I only watched bits and pieces of Life on Mars but I agree that it was majorly sucky. Yuck. I'm definitely not going to waste anymore time on it. I'll just have to go back and watch the awesomeness of the original.

It is pretty usual for the American pilot to really heavily crib the original series, I think, but if they're doing it that badly and if they can't find their own feet in the next episode, then the verdict is FAIL.

YOU WATCHED SUPERNATURAL!! OMGYAY! *giggle* Sorry ;) I know what you're saying, though. The show has upped the gory factor a lot in the past season. :P I watch with my hands covering my face, sometimes my eyes peeking out between my fingers. Heh...

No, no, Gossip Girl is just reflective of the crappy channel Supernatural is on. The CW sucketh majorly, with shows like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and a bunch of new shows that I don't ever pay attention to. Although I don't watch much on TV these days, either...

Ugh, me neither. There's only one Sam Tyler & IT AIN'T THIS ONE. ::glares:: Still pissed that they're about to fuck up my favourite episode next week. GRRR.

O, wow. It was that bad? I haven't even seen promo pictures or anything and I don't think I plan to either. Philip Glenister IS Gent Hunt and John Simm IS Sam Tyler - why on Earth would you go and change that? D:
