Elizabeth (Betsy). Twenty-two, almost twenty-three, but perpetually seventeen. Whirls back & forth between vulgarity & delicacies like a dervish proper & has been known to disappear for months on end. Worshipper of Carroll, devotee of Lovecraft & BPAL hoarder absolute. Destined for the madhouse.

Agreed with IN FULL. The boys in rubber, Polly in seashells & Two being pretty as he is were pretty much all I enjoyed about the story. Even when I saw it before seeing the recons, I didn't really enjoy it. But because I'm determined to see as much of Two's era as I can, I made myself push on. At least The Moonbase was a bit better for Polly.
Ara was a dear, and she had a few moments of awesome as well - especially with her quick-witted schemes to help the gang just because the Doctor was kind to her. I couldn't help but notice that she practically disappears at the very end, though, so I have the feeling it was probably her who was meant to escape to the surface with Polly instead of Jamie, and that in the rewrite her lines were given to Pol so that Jamie could have hers instead. Not on, writers. Not on.
Ara! She was a sweet thing & I do agree it was most likely her who would have come up with Polly to the surface, if Jamie were not in the story. I hope she was able to get out in time though - my personal canon says she did. :D But it would have been nice if the writers had been able to show her, Polly & Jamie all escaping together, I think. But alas, such was not so.
One of my best friends at elementary school had watched The Exorcist half a dozen times by the time we were 9, and she was a pretty level-headed and normal girl. Of course, she told us everything about the movie with minute detail, and I had nightmares for weeks. :P
ACK! Okay, that is one of the few horror movies I cannot even bring myself to watch CLIPS of, let alone the whole thing. The barbarian told me how she went to see it with her first husband & a friend of hers & afterward, her friend couldn't drive home on her own & the barbarian said she slept with all the lights on that night. I can't even read the book!
I know what you mean. It's amazing that such a disappointing story (the weakest from Two's era, in my opinion) has such a stunning recon.
EXACTLY! It IS good that we have such a lovely recon, but for such a weak story, it's a little sad. I think I would have preferred the recon of The Underwater Menace to be the quality of The Highlanders, & for The Highlanders to have been so delightfully redone. But it's good that ANY of Two's stories are able to be reconned so nicely at all, of course!
& thankyou for linking me to all of those recaps! I've actually finished my last three recaps (which I'll be posting on Saturday) & as soon as I'm all done with Ben & Polly's final story, I'll check them out. (I'm going to miss Ben & Polly so much!) It's a shame that no one posted about The Moonbase (which I love Ben & Polly in!) & The Faceless Ones; I'd have loved to read them.
