'It's not so bad being dead like me.'
Sep. 17th, 2009 12:01 amO, what a past couple of days it's been!
First off, concerning my beauty school application . . . I WAS ACCEPTED!!! I was accepted & I began the day right after I'd been accepted, which was today.
Now, when I say I'm off to beauty school, I don't mean I'm training to be a hairdresser, actually - I'm doing a course in esthetics & a considerably advanced course in it, as the main esthetics course doesn't include some of the things I'll be learning, such as massage - Swedish, shiatsu, & I think another couple of types, including basic - & several different types of facials, including microdermabrasion, chemical peels & I think one technique that involves vibratory massage with the facial. I'll also be covering makeup (which is my main goal in this field - working to be a makeup artist in the fashion industry), waxing techniques & the basics of skin care, as well as the ingredients & chemistry of what is put into makeup products.
The big advantage to this course, & why I was so adamant about taking it, was because not only will I be able to attain a licence as a state-certified esthetician, but once I complete the full course, I'll be able to work abroad, if I choose to. Which I will be looking up after I finish (it's only a ten month course & I'll be done on June sixteenth of next year), preferably in London or somewhere in the UK. Of course, in-between this, I'll try & find work here in the city, to practise my skills & to begin to connect myself within the industry. One of the girls in my course (who was kind enough to share her cigarettes with me during our lunch break) who's very close to graduating, suggested I try to find work as a receptionist in a salon part-time, to help validate my licence. I'll have to get work somehow, in order to pay off my student loans, so I'm going to look at that, but I'm not sure if I should do it right away or wait at least a couple of months after I'm a little more settled into my course. I'll ask my instructor tomorrow I think.
So, my first day! Well, I was so nervous & tired from the day before, I went to bed hugely early & forgot to turn my alarm on! Luckily the barbarian had an appointment of her own, which my father was taking her to, so she woke me up. I got there on time (yay!) & basically, I had a really great morning! I met some really nice people, I was NOT the only new girl in the class AND AND AND . . . I got my first ever facial! Oooo, it was so wonderful & indulgent & just . . . aah, I loved it. I even got a hand facial (which I believe I'll be giving tomorrow, since I had one today), which made my hands super soft, & a second facial, which I actually fell asleep during! (but this was a good thing, as it meant I was so relaxed! But I was just a little embarrassed, nevertheless. ::giggles::) My schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, eight-thirty to five in the afternoon, with Sundays & Mondays, plus holidays off. It's very new to me, but I'll get used to it, I think!
& I want to thank ALL OF YOU who sent me texts, Twitters & comments congratulating me & telling me that I'd have a fab day - I totally did! I am still a bit nervous about giving treatments to people, but I'm definitely going to try & work through that. But it's natural, right? I've never done this before, after all! But anyway, you lot were so sweet to me & I really really appreciated it. Thankyou! ::snuggles::
O, & I also finished watching all of series two of Dead Like Me - I'll make a hugely fangirly, rambly post on it as soon as I get the time. I have the movie, but I've been . . . well, I've been cautioned that it isn't as good as the series, really. All I know about it is that they massively fucked over Daisy's character (THIS SHIT DOES NOT FLY WITH ME, I LOVE THAT GIRL.), but I'll give it a try anyway, I think. It's good to have my own opinion, after all.
(unless Mason also got the fuck-over treatment. THEN THAT IS FUCKING IT FOR THE MOVIE. NOBODY FUCKS WITH BOTH MASON & DAISY ON MY WATCH, SAVVY?)
I need Mason icons. & Daisy & George icons. & Mason/Daisy icons. Yes, yes I do.
