Firstly, meme time! (since I forgot to do it in my last entry.)

The Letter Meme!

Comment and I'll give you a letter. Then you have to list ten things you love that begin with that letter. Afterward, post this in your journal and give out some letters of your own.

[livejournal.com profile] yourfavoritesky gave me the letter B.

i. Bubble baths.

& not just any kind of bubble baths. I mean the kind where the water is burning hot, hot enough to make your skin soft & pliable, hot enough to make clouds of steam rise off of your bare skin any time it comes out of the water. The kind where you're surrounded by dark, woodsy, sensuously scented incense & candles, & your bath is filled almost to capacity once you're in it. The kind that makes you choose a few lovely books to read & makes you decide to take your tea in the bath. Then, finally, once you've left it, you're so soft & malleable & lightheaded from the heat & indulgence of your all your senses that you need to lie down for a bit on your bed until you've finally come down from all the pleasure.

ii. Books.

The scent of them, new or old, the memories they hold, the pure, unsoiled magick of so many of them. Bookshops are one of the few places I ever feel truly safe & at home in. No anxiety, no panic attacks, no obsessively dangerous trains of thoughts. Bookstores dizzy me; they always have. So many words & so much knowledge all in one single place . . . I do not lie when I say that there are times I've almost fainted in bookshops from simply being surrounded by all of that. Used bookshops have an even stronger effect on me - almost to the point where I just can't breathe from being surrounded by so many beautiful new words & stories & ideas. Being in used bookshops always makes me feel as though I've entered into a spiral of sorts. A spiral of words & ideas & stories, all calling me to read & touch them, to absorb them, little by little, as much as I can in one round. I love just wandering around bookshops, merely touching the spines of books I love, the ones I want, the ones I hope to buy eventually.

(& occasionally? I may, if no one else is around, kiss a spine or two. Just a simple, fleeting press of the lips, as a promise that I will not forget you. Shhhh. That'll be our little secret, nein?)

iii. Big Finish audios featuring the Eighth Doctor & Charley Pollard.

I ♥ Eight. & I ♥ Charley. In so many ways & for so many reasons. I also love how I can just use all of my imagination when I listen to an audio - it's so much more satisfying than I'd have ever thought. & I have [livejournal.com profile] soundthedrums & [livejournal.com profile] laii to thank for this! ::snuggles the both of you::

(& o, my darlings. Sometimes, simply listening, can be more sexy fun than watching, it really can be.)

iv. Bunnies!

'cause that's what [livejournal.com profile] yourfavoritesky gave me this letter for & YAY BUNNIES! ::glomps them::

v. Black lace lingerie.

Some of which I may or may not be wearing at the moment. ::giggle::

vi. Blue skies.

When the sky is that perfect, perfect cloudless shade of blue, I can just get so lost in it. Sometimes, I might get so lost in it, that if I'm standing on grass, I might fall over - & keep staring up at the sky.

vii. Bare feet.

I hate, hate hate wearing shoes. Even flipflops, really. I'd much prefer to be running & dancing about barefoot, on the ground, in the house, on sand . . . I detest shoes & frankly, will kick them off at any opportunity I can. I prefer my bare feet on the ground. (even though really, when ever are my feet really on the ground?)

viii. Billie Piper.

'cause really, do I need an explanation? BILLIE♥♥♥

ix. Burning incense.

I ♥ incense - I burn it all the time. I like my room to be reminiscent of an opium den, thankyouverymuch.

x. Boys For Pele by Tori Amos.

Boys For Pele was the first album I ever heard by Tori when I was thirteen. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but I spent my entire thirteenth summer listening to it. I actually got it without the case, in a collection of CDs my father had acquired from someone. I'd heard of her, but I'd never actually listened to any of her music. So I had the album for a few years before I gave it a good listen, if I remember right. & ever since that summer, I've never looked back. My favourite tracks are Blood Roses, Marianne, Muhammad My Friend, Doughnut Song & Putting The Damage On. Actually, I think Putting The Damage On is one of my favourite songs ever.

----------

I persuaded Mother to come & watch Withnail & I with me tonight. I swear, she was half-asleep during it, even if she claims otherwise. But she said she liked it, & that she liked it a lot more than she'd expected to. I of course, still adore it, even on the fourth viewing & I still laugh like the craziest of girls through most of it.

& I realised (I promise, I won't babble!) just why that girl, the girl that I had known so long ago, liked that film. When I remember her, I remember the sort of girlie she was & I realise, that would have been a perfect film for her. & she loved British things so much. & now, I wish I could ask her what she thought of it.

O, silly girlies we both were.

& I miss her still.

--------

So. I'm sure a fair few of you are familiar with the community [livejournal.com profile] loves_them_all, which celebrates all those who've travelled with the Doctor throughout the years. I love that community; it's one of the things that helped me start watching the classic series & introduced me to so many amazing people who travelled with the Doctor. It's where I first met Romana & where I first met Harry & where I got a closer look at Sarah Jane - the companion who pulled me into classic!Who. It's how I discovered Susan & why I know I have to see at least one of her stories. Since then, I've dug all around the place, looking at various tributes & essays on all of the different people who've walked in & out of the TARDIS in the Doctor's nine centuries of life.

But, as far as I know, there's no similar community that celebrates the Doctor himself, in all of his different regenerations & timelines. I know some of the more popular of his regenerations have their own communities - off the top of my head, there's [livejournal.com profile] venusianakkido for Three & [livejournal.com profile] halfhumandoctor for Eight, though I know there are a few more out there.

But I'd really love to see one community where everyone can just discuss the Doctor, no matter what version, in one place. A single place, much like [livejournal.com profile] loves_them_all, where information, essays & all of that kind of stuff related to just the Doctor can be kept & those interested in learning more about past regenerations of the Doctor can go & have an easier time finding out what they want to know.

(Of course, I'm remembering how I had to find out about various Doctors - I still don't even know anything about about three of them - I just sort of picked up what I could find, by reading up on different companions, reading what others said about certain Doctors & basically, just scrabbling around in some very dim light for information because I had no idea of anywhere else I could look. & also, I HAVE been over to [livejournal.com profile] idol_reflection & came up with almost nothing. [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto has a few Doctor Who related entries, but those are of a shippy nature, obviously, & I'd prefer to just read about the Doctor himself.)

So, I suppose, what I'm asking you bunnies is this: if there IS a community like that on LJ, & if there isn't, should there be one?

& also, this sort of stems from my sadness & slight annoyance of the slight lack of classic series related fanworks & things related to that - I know there's [livejournal.com profile] classicwho, but it's been a bit quiet lately, as [livejournal.com profile] greenbubblewrap's been, if my memory's right.

Basically, I want to see more classic!Who discussion, focused on the classic!Doctors & a little less on the new series. Like I said, it would also be nice to have such a place for those who know zippo about any classic Doctor to go & learn more, & for those that adore the original eight, to have a place that caters specifically to them.

(Or is this just me being mad bitchy that I can't find anyone who will flail/discuss/witter on with me about how fabulous Two is?)

--------

I've a holiday tomorrow, not sure what I'll be doing though. I should finish up The Sarah Jane Adventures - gah, I've been so terribly lazy about watching the rest of it! (Bad Sunday, no cookies for you!) So maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Edit: I'm listening to the Living Legend audio featuring Eight & Charley & OMG it's so cute. Charley dressed up as & pretending to be a Time Lady! (& she makes a very good one too!) Eight in proper Time Lord fashion! (I rather abhor the fashions of Gallifrey, but o, Eight & Four could wear them rather well . . .)

& omg this biiiiit:

Eight (nervously, tenatively): 'My lady, if I may be allowed to speak . . .'

Charley: 'Be quiet Doctor! You have utterly failed in your duty. You have allowed an important historical figure to become infected with a deadly illness. I shall deal with you when we return to Gallifrey.'

Eight (meekly & in the sexiest voice possible): 'I'm so very sorry, my lady.'

Charley: 'And your punishment will be severe, Doctor.'

Eight (in the most subservient of tones): 'Yes, my lady.'

Charley: 'Perhaps a century or two of scrubbing the TARDIS floors with your toothbrush will curb your enthusiasm.'

Eight (in a sort of accepting, subordinate way): 'I deserve nothing less, my lady.'

& at the end, when all is said & done . . .

Charley: 'You shall do as I command, Doctor, or the TARDIS floors will be the least of your concerns.'

Eight: 'You know something Charley? You make a more convincing Time Lord than me.'

Charley: (bright & adorable OMG I LOVE HER) 'O, thank you Doctor!'

Eight: 'That wasn't really a compliment.'

::bangs head on desk:: I will not write this, I will not write this, I will not write this, I will not smut up Eight & Charley, I will not smut up Eight & Charley, I will not smut up Eight & Charley no matter how much I think Eight deserves it . . .

O, the smut bunnies are going to war with my insecurities & sensibilities right now . . .

SERIOUSLY, SERIOUSLY! I mean, if the Doctor's own companions have one, why shouldn't there be (& forgive me, love, I just can't resist) a companion community for just the Doctor? I really would like to start one, but I worry that no one will actually join. :(

Can I has a letter?

"Boys for Pele" was my first Tori album as well! Everytime I listen to it, I remember being 14 with candles lit around my darkened room dreaming of life's first love.

Yes you most certainly can has! How about M? ^__^

SQUEE! It's amazing the memory that music can bring back isn't it? Just a few simple notes, or even the faintest lyric of a particular song can bring back so much emotion & feeling. It's just incredible.

abandon hope all who enter here

Elizabeth (Betsy). Twenty-two, almost twenty-three, but perpetually seventeen. Whirls back & forth between vulgarity & delicacies like a dervish proper & has been known to disappear for months on end. Worshipper of Carroll, devotee of Lovecraft & BPAL hoarder absolute. Destined for the madhouse.
