Alright everyone, this is it - the final recap of the great & mighty Troughton rewatch-athon. Tonight, we finish up with a story from the new series, believe it or not - the episode Midnight, which featured David Troughton in a supporting role, but one I'd say he did well with!

So here, we come full circle now - we started with his father as the Doctor, & we end with David back on Doctor Who, this time opposite David Tennant's Doctor!

- Ooo, sapphire waterfalls! ::swoons:: Can you imagine the sight of such a thing?!

- Mmm, fancy drinks for Donna & an anti-gravity restaurant! Awesome!

- TEN! NEVER SAY 'What could possibly go wrong?' BEFORE YOU GET ON AN AEROPLANE! In fact, you shouldn't say it at all, being the Doctor, really.

- HELLO DAVID TROUGHTON! ::waves excitedly:: & OMG. [livejournal.com profile] nentari - I see what you mean about the moment when he looks just like his father! Quite a shock, I must say!

- Hmm. Is it just me or does Skye look a bit like an older Liz Shaw, but with more eye makeup? I think she kind of does, myself.

- Wow . . . four hours on that plane & I'd kill myself just to stop hearing all the noise.

- Ah, thankyou, Ten! ::pets the sonic screwdriver::

- Aww. I like how Ten's all, 'HEY, LET'S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER THEN!' I wish I could do that.

- I have to admit, Ten has a point about travelling on one's own - it can be really liberating.

- Skye's girlfriend left her, Ten mentions Rose abstractly . . . yeah, this is an RTD story. Just sayin'.

- I swear, in one scene, David Troughton is not only channelling his father in look & style, but in voice as well - really! (the scene where he's going on about Midnight & all the facts of it)

- Hmm, here's Ten's ballsy 'Oh I'll just go in and muck about with everything without so much as a by-your-leave, thank you very much' little . . . quirk-thing of his.

- 'I'm a doctor, I'm very clever.'

- Wow. Midnight's a really beautiful place. It's so . . . glittery & shiny-looking. But it's all poisonous at once. Hmm. What a lovely little paradox, I think.

- When Ten yells 'QUIET!' at everyone, I half expected him to then yell, 'Fingers on lips!' like in Fear Her.

- I would like to say, that while I don't particularly like this episode, I do appreciate how claustrophobic it can make one feel at times.

- Also, I don't know how I'm getting through this episode - it's set ON A PLANE & it's having mechanical failures & there are THINGS onboard it - this will just make me even more panicky about getting on a plane now. Eeep.

- O, it's a Rose! Onscreen! But Ten missed her . . . alas. But he'll find her soon.

- O, mention of the Medusa Cascade!

- I do have to admit, on a non-claustrophobic level, this is a rather . . . well, disturbing story on some levels. It's extremely disconcerting to see how easily such a small group of humans could resort to murder & basic savagery & how fast they turn on the Doctor, even when he's trying to help & keep everyone calm. It's . . . it's pathetic on one hand, yet understandable, when everyone's so scared & fearful of what's going to happen next.

- Actually, I quite think the whole lot of them are rather idiots, save for maybe Professor Hobbes. It's another reason I never liked this story - just about all of the characters were just panicky imbeciles ready to kill what they don't understand.

- Okay, when Ten starts doing all the repeating, I get a bit disturbed. But watching David Tennant play a drooling, possessed maniac is rather interesting to watch.

- 'That's how he does it. He makes you fight. Creeps into your head. And whispers. Listen. Just listen. That's him. Inside.'

. . . for those who will understand what I mean . . . doesn't that sound a frighteningly fair bit like something from Zagreus?

- Hello there, David Tennant, all laid out in such an enticing position! ::waves girlishly::

- I do like the scene when Ten & Donna see each other again, & they don't speak, she just hugs him. I think it's a rather beautiful moment. & I don't mind the ending too much - it's quiet, soft & understated. A good ending to a rather chilling story.

-----------

Alright, it's confession time - I was really reluctant to recap this episode because it's not one of my favourites at all & because I can't stand the Tenth Doctor whatsoever. I find him more to be everything people say about Six - egotistical, self-centred & a bit of a jerk, really. But I was adamant on coming full circle as it were - beginning with Patrick Troughton's era & ending with his son's appearance in the new series, so I pushed myself to do this & not be a baby about it.

Okay, all of that said, it was really lovely to see David Troughton back in Doctor Who, though I wish he could have had a bigger part or just been in a better story altogether - he totally deserves another leading role in the series! I did like his character here for the most part - it's probably just me, but I thought Professor Hobbes was a bit Two-esque at times, but just in very small ways. But as I said, I could have just imagined that - & I probably did! ::laughs::

As for the story itself, it's alright, I would say. To me, it feels like RTD was trying to pull a Steven Moffat & couldn't really do it that well. I'd give this episode a C- because it was a good effort, a nice story if you like these kind, but I thought it could have been made a lot scarier by another writer - not necessarily Steven Moffat, either. It's no Edge of Destruction, which is a great story from One's era in the same style as this episode & I really like that one. It's much creepier in my opinion.

So - average episode, could have been better in my opinion, but also, it was a good break between the last three episodes of series four, which are so intense. But I feel that it's a story you need to really enjoy the new series & Ten to really enjoy, & I don't that much, if we're really honest.

So that's our final recap, ladies & gentlemen! Before I close this up with the last sentiments of mine, I just want to extend a huge thank-you to [livejournal.com profile] nentari, who encouraged me to do this, has been the generator of some awesome conversations throughout my recaps & who sort of gave me all the tools I needed to launch this little adventure! & I'd also like to thank [livejournal.com profile] stellastars for dropping in & generating some equally fab ideas & discussions between the two of us, as well as everyone who's commented, read & even lurked around in the shadows - it's been a blast, folks & I thank those of you who stayed with me for all of this! ♥♥♥

& I'm going to miss doing these, actually! It was a lot of work, but it was a ton of fun & I'm really glad that I did it - I can now say that I've officially seen & listened to all of the Second Doctor's era & well, that I might have just earned a degree in Two-ology, if you will! ::laughs:: I've had the best time doing this & maybe one day, I'll think of doing a second rewatch-athon for another Doctor. But that wouldn't be for a looooong time - I'm taking my time off now & catching up with all the serials I haven't seen yet, plus, getting more Six serials!

But, while this is the last of my recaps, it isn't quite the last of the celebrations! I've got a couple more things to share before the end, mind you. ::beams::

Aww. I like how Ten's all, 'HEY, LET'S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER THEN!' I wish I could do that.
It's a great idea, writing-wise - it helps us to know a bit about the other passengers and perhaps like them a bit, which will help us to feel even more shocked about their behaviour later on.

I do have to admit, on a non-claustrophobic level, this is a rather . . . well, disturbing story on some levels. It's extremely disconcerting to see how easily such a small group of humans could resort to murder & basic savagery & how fast they turn on the Doctor, even when he's trying to help & keep everyone calm.
Back when I was into CSI, I was very fond of a season 1 story that had the same atmosphere. A murder took place on a plane, and in the end the team discovered that all the other passengers were responsible, as panic and terror turned them against the victim - but because they couldn't provide with any phisical evidence, the passengers all left scot-free. It didn't feel as oppressive as this one, as we saw the story through the CSI ream reconstructing the scene (and throwing a few jokes in between), but it deals with the same psychological phenomena.

Nowadays, it interests me as much seeing Colin Morgan (who played the kid, Jethro) in this as it does seeing David, as Colin is the title character in Merlin, which my father watches every sunday. I cannot watch an episode without looking at Merlin and accidentally calling him "Jethro", and I have the feeling the opposite might happen when next I rewatch Midnight.

Aw, thanks for the thanks. :D It was a pleasure to be involved in this project as well.

I'm taking my time off now & catching up with all the serials I haven't seen yet, plus, getting more Six serials!
You let us know what you think of the serials you'll be watching next as well, yes? Even if your reviews are not as extensive as a recap. :)

Edit: I forgot to link you to this piece of fanart: a crossover between Midnight and S2 Torchwood.

I used to have the same problem. So, I covered all my bases and called him JethroMerlin.

Also, the cell guard that Jenny kisses in "The Doctor's Daughter" is Merlin's ex-boyfriend friend from home, Will.

Yes, I recognized him when that episode aired here last week. Plus, Angel Coulby (Gwen) was Reinette's anachronistic black friend in The Girl in the Fireplace, and Sarah Parish (Lady Catrina) was the Racnoss Empress in The Runaway Bride - and let's not even mention Tony Head, Richard Wilson, Eve Myles and Michelle Ryan... ;)

That, I will agree with! It was a pretty good idea for this story. :)

HEE! A load of my friends love Merlin & that is the ONLY reason I knew he was in this episode - I didn't even know his last name. :P

Aw, thanks for the thanks. :D It was a pleasure to be involved in this project as well.

If it hadn't been for you, I literally never could have done this. You deserve all the thanks, lovey. ♥♥

Oh, I can appreciate shallow, silly comments, as you well know. ;) For instance, I cannot wait to see your reaction when you finally manage to see Steven's shapely bum in The Celestial Toymaker. *winks* And, since I've rewatched Inferno yesterday, I'm also curious about your reaction to our beloved UNIT boys' evil counterparts. I have friends who swoon over evil!Brig and evil!Benton as much as you do Salamander - which I can fully understand. I mean, yum. :D

Benton in every shape and form is a delight to see (especially Unexpected Naked Benton, of course :P), but there's just something about evil!Benton... He's a bit like Packer, but even more vicious and sadistic, and without that pitiful look that makes us feel sorry for him. Plus, there's that sexiness that always irradiates from John Levene (well, expect when he played Cybermen and Yeti, of course).

I REALLY can't argue with this - NOR DO I WANT TO - so, with all of that already in place . . . Evil!Benton must be, & PLEASE pardon the pun, an inferno of sexiness! Like Salamander. & Evil!Brig - there's something about that eyepatch, actually . . .

Only Salamander is a suave, calculating beast. Evil!Benton is all sadism and brute force, and his sole motivation seems to want to shoot Three. His final scenes are solid evidence of the amazing actor John Levene is, though, in spite of the fact that he's covered in... well, I better shut up before I spoil you.

I've never been a fan of eyepatches, but Nick Courtney surely wears it well.

::gigglesnorts:: O GOD, YOU'VE JUST REMINDED ME OF THE LAST EPISODE OF Dead Like Me I watched - it involved Fitz Mason trying to hit on all these different girls in a record shop with these AWFUL pick-up lines (one in particular made me giggle until I couldn't breathe, I have to say) & THEY LITERALLY KEPT SLAPPING HIM. & when he finally has sex with a girl in the back of the shop, when she walks out? SHE SLAPS HIM. Then his friend Daisy slaps him because she thought 'it just looked like so much fun.' So I could SO imagine this happening. XD though I might have to poke Polly for that - Fitz is a doll! NO SLAPPING THE SEXY ROCKERS PLZ.

I think Pandora is a bit too old by then, since she's in her seventies (at least in looks, as she's probably much older, given that she's part alien and spent most of her life as a companion) and in the mood for having a calm, celibatary life in her autumn years. However, as you must have noticed from the references to her I've made so far, teen!Pandora will be making an appearance in my multi-Doctor adventure, thus explaining how she knows Jamie even though he hadn't met her before - and we'll find out who the "Moongirl" Pandora asked Jamie about really is. Pandora/Moongirl FTW, I think. :)

Ooh, could you share it with me?

::giggles a bit:: Okay, but be prepared for a bit of headdesking/facepalming/sighing/eyerolling a la Anji, because I believe it went something like this: 'Do either of you ladies work for UPS? 'Cause I noticed you checking out my package.'

& this was BEFORE everyone started slapping him! ::chokes to death from the giggles:: Finally before he could even SAY anything, they were just slapping him. :P

But what about when it looks like they enjoy being slapped? :P

I handle all of the Fitz-related slapping, thankyouverymuch, so hands off, ladies! Well, if they so enjoy it . . . it's their face that's going to hurt, not mine!

Ooooo! ::is quite intrigued:: I can't wait to meet her!
The way I created Pandora is quite funny. I bought my Sims 2 game last year, when I was starting work on Jamie, and decided to create sim versions of Doctor Who characters to help me develop my writing muses. After a while, I decided to make Thirteen adopt a baby, and whatever he received would become his second companion (the sim version of his other companion, Graham Jones, was created as a child, and I had to make him sim!Thirteen's son because they needed to be related). Anyway, the social worker brought me a blond-haired, brown-eyed girl, and I named her Pandora. When she became a toddler, she was absolutely gorgeous, with a cute sideways ponytail, but when she became a child she suddenly started to look a little horsey, to the point that I realized she had to be half-alien - hence Jamie calling her "unheartly" when he sees teen!Pandora in the Doctor's photo collection. Later on, when I devised her mother's planet and race (the Etaminians) I had discovered a gorgeous fantasy sim skin called Pixie Pearl, and decided that that would be how the Etaminian skin looked like - but it looked a bit strange on Pandora, since I've been so used to seeing her with normal skin, so I decided that she would still have human-looking skin, but that if you looked up close you could see traces of the flowery pattern from her Etaminian heritage, as if it was a faded scar.
Anyway, Pandora was a teenager when that neighbourhood crashed, but I saved her and might "resurrect" her later. The awkwardness vanished when she became a teen, though if you look close she still looks a bit "unheartly". Here's her image in my downloads page:

& Moongirl, of the mysterious-yet-pretty moniker. ^_^
I was sure you would have realized who Moongirl is by now, as I was as subtle as a rhyno in a china shop with that moniker. :P

'Do either of you ladies work for UPS? 'Cause I noticed you checking out my package.'
*facepalm* Oh dear. Yes, that is very much a Fitzy pick-up line - and "headdesking/facepalming/sighing/eyerolling" would definitely be Anji's reaction if she witnessed it.

Well, if they so enjoy it . . . it's their face that's going to hurt, not mine!
yes, you'll just have the enjoyment of seeing the look on their faces. :P

MOAR CRACK: Fitz/Ben? LOOK, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I KEEP THINKING OF THESE THINGS!

But oddly, I'd accept Fitz/Ben over Ben/Jamie any time.

OMG, PANDORA IS JUST ADORABLE!! She actually looks a bit like Daisy from Dead Like Me, who is also undead, a starlet & has some SERIOUS sexual tension with Mason. (this all suddenly seems very ironic, in a way. ::laughs::) But ANYWAY, Pandora's a cutie! :D & that skin is really pretty - why can't I have skin like that?! (though people might be even more scared of my funny face then . . .)

DUDE, ISN'T IT? ::gigglesnorts:: There is NO doubt in my mind that Fitz would try something similar on a girl - more proof as to why Mason = Fitz. (& he actually kicked the bucket in 1966 - UM HELLO, A YEAR BEFORE FITZ WENT TRAVELLING WITH EIGHT, HOW AWESOME IS THIS.)

*dies laughing*

Fitz/Ben/Eight? 'cause we don't like making Time Lords jealous, do we? SOMEONE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE WRITE FITZ/BEN. IT WOULD BE MADE OF HOT.

Well, they are two adorable Cockney boys, which means they have something more in common besides the Doctor.

Exactly! Which is why Fitz/Ben would actually make sense, even in a cracky context! Besides, Cockney boys have the sexiest accents. So if one's yummy all on his own, two would be even better, right? ::glows pearly pink:: WE MUST PROPOSE THIS THEORY TO THE WORLD AT LARGE.

You should have seen her as a toddler. She was the prettiest baby I ever had in my game (except for Frazer McCrimmon), which is why I was completely taken by surprise when her face became long and horsey as a child.

She actually looks a bit like Daisy from Dead Like Me
After seeing some photos, I think you're right. That actress would have made a great Pandora. Too bad she's too old to play teen!Pan, and too young for Torchwood!Pan.

& that skin is really pretty - why can't I have skin like that?! (though people might be even more scared of my funny face then . . .)
You can have skin like that - but it will cost you a lot of time and a lot of makeup. :P

::looks innocently blank::
Well, I'm sure you'll realize it soon enough, since I'll have to throw the hints again throughout Tin Men - not because of lack of subtlety, but because it will look odd in the narrative if I don't.

(& he actually kicked the bucket in 1966 - UM HELLO, A YEAR BEFORE FITZ WENT TRAVELLING WITH EIGHT, HOW AWESOME IS THIS.)
Erm, that would be three years after Fitz went travelling with the Doctor (The Taint was set in 1963), and a year before Fitz decides to leave Eight and Sam in Revolution Man.

Fitz/Ben/Eight? 'cause we don't like making Time Lords jealous, do we?
Ah, but it's okay if dolly duchesses get jealous, is it, hmm? :P

After seeing some photos, I think you're right. That actress would have made a great Pandora. Too bad she's too old to play teen!Pan, and too young for Torchwood!Pan.

O, yay! For a moment, I thought it was just my newly obsessed eyes. :P But maybe she can be grown-up!Pandora? (which may be rather amusing to think about, considering how she dances twice with Callum & sort of clings to him in one episode after he saves her life.)

You can have skin like that - but it will cost you a lot of time and a lot of makeup. :P

You're right, I can! But oooo, I FAIL with any fancy makeup, really. :O

Well, I'm sure you'll realize it soon enough, since I'll have to throw the hints again throughout Tin Men - not because of lack of subtlety, but because it will look odd in the narrative if I don't.

YAY!

Erm, that would be three years after Fitz went travelling with the Doctor (The Taint was set in 1963), and a year before Fitz decides to leave Eight and Sam in Revolution Man.

BUGGER! Why did I think Fitz met Eight & Sam in 1967? ::sighs at her silly head:: Well, anyway, STILL! Mason comes from the sixties, like Fitz! FTW.

(& I read Unnatural History tonight - LOVED IT LIKE OMFG WHOA. & not just for all the good bits. :P Dark!Sam reminds me a LOT of Mason, actually.)

Ah, but it's okay if dolly duchesses get jealous, is it, hmm? :P

O, but I'll be around to assuage Polly's jealousy! & you didn't forget that THIS dolly bird might be a bit jealous herself, did you? :P I'm good at that . . . really good, actually. ::serene smile::

No, Scottish boys have the sexiest accents. Cockney boys come second. :P

::giggles:: OKAY, THIS IS A SOLID FACT. Unless they're named Fitz Kreiner. Then this fact can be superseded. THAT IS ALSO A FACT.

I can't find any, but I'm sure I can produce some by temporarily reinstalling various versions of her (each of a different age) for a "Besty exclusive" photoshoot. It will be ready in a few days, if you want one. :)

But maybe she can be grown-up!Pandora?
Yes, certainly. I just don't have anything for grown-up!Pandora right away.

BUGGER! Why did I think Fitz met Eight & Sam in 1967?
Maybe because 1967 is still a pivotal date for Fitz, and because it's a year that seems to suit him better than 1963.

(& I read Unnatural History tonight - LOVED IT LIKE OMFG WHOA. & not just for all the good bits. :P Dark!Sam reminds me a LOT of Mason, actually.)
I'm glad you liked it. Sugarholic unicorns FTW! :P And yes, Dark!Sam is an interesting idea. She was hinted at in previous books (starting with Alien Bodies, which also introduces Faction Paradox), but always in dreams and illusions Sam experiences, so it was a shock at the start of this one to see Blonde!Sam gone and Dark!Sam being real.

I'm good at that . . . really good, actually. ::serene smile::
Oh really? *is intrigued*

Unless they're named Fitz Kreiner. Then this fact can be superseded. THAT IS ALSO A FACT.
Well, okay, I grant you Fitz. Except when he's competing against Jamie, that is.

O, I'd love that! If you don't mind, of course! ::snugs you::

(& I need to start capping my Dead Like Me DVDs for your Callum picspam! There will be at least ONE gem in there that will make you go '. . . OMG. IT'S FITZ, REINCARNATED.'

Yes, certainly. I just don't have anything for grown-up!Pandora right away.

FAB! & not so fab, but you know what I mean. :D (& it's even more amusing if I see Daisy as grown-up!Pandora - I ship Mason/Daisy like CRAZY, so in my weird head, I'd somehow managed to whip out Fitz/grown-up!Pandora. IT COULD HAPPEN!)

Maybe because 1967 is still a pivotal date for Fitz, and because it's a year that seems to suit him better than 1963.

Hmm, good point. Maybe it's my mod obsession that keeps making me think he's from 1967, for some reason. But 1963 is NOT a problem! ^___^

I'm glad you liked it. Sugarholic unicorns FTW! :P And yes, Dark!Sam is an interesting idea. AGREED! :D & now I see why you suggested I read Alien Bodies first - I will now, but like I said, I'm like an egg for Fitz - over easy!

Oh really? *is intrigued*

You bet I am! ::leads Polly into her own room:: We'll be fiiiiine, promise!

Well, okay, I grant you Fitz. Except when he's competing against Jamie, that is.

I wonder what it would be like if Jamie & Fitz met . . . a battle of the ultimate sexiness would have to be had, I think! ::hangs up a Team Fitz flag::

Of course I don't mind. It will be great seeing toddler!Pan again. :)

OOH!

It could, yes.

AGREED! :D & now I see why you suggested I read Alien Bodies first - I will now, but like I said, I'm like an egg for Fitz - over easy!
There's something else besides those two factors that makes it important that you read Alien Bodies, and which will be made clear when you get to it.

You bet I am! ::leads Polly into her own room:: We'll be fiiiiine, promise!
Oh dear.

I wonder what it would be like if Jamie & Fitz met . . . a battle of the ultimate sexiness would have to be had, I think! ::hangs up a Team Fitz flag::
More like a battle to see who would be the first to get into the Doctor's striped pants. :P

Okay, I have managed to play a little bit with the Sims, and collected enough material for your "Betsy excusive" photoshoot. So, without further ado, I give you...

The Five Faces of Pandora Pugh

Firstly, here's child!Pandora, in a pretty ice-skater dress. I have changed default skins and eyes since I last played my sim version of Pan, and I have to say the change is quite noticeable, especially in her child version.

Next, here's elder!Pandora - the one who is working at Torchwood with Jack and Zoe. Sadly the hairstyle I've grown used to referring to as "Pandora hair" does not exist for elders, but I think this one suits her as well.

Next, here's her adult and teenager selves.

I dressed adult!Pandora in a mod dress I downloaded some time ago, and which I felt should finally be tried out by one of my sims. Quite dolly, don't you think?

And finally, here's the cutest of the cute, baby!Pan, wearing the same blue dress the game gave her back in my original Doctor Who neighbourhood.

The two Pandoras relevant to the Fourteenth Doctor Chronicles discuss Moongirl and that hunk of a man Jamie McCrimmon...

...while child!Pandora made me wonder why I ever thought she looked funky at this age.

Oh, right. Because she was always doing this.

Meanwhile, teen!Pandora decides to also assume her most usual pose - checking herself out in front of the mirror.

Adult!Pandora and baby!Pandora decide to look cute together...

...and nearly kill me with the adorableness of it all.

And finally, here's a picture of the other three Pandoras (plus unexpected K9) talking about what it's like travelling with the Thirteenth Doctor and learning about all the eras of Earth they've visited.

OMG. :D

ALL three versions of miss Pandora are positively ADORABLE!!! & YES, Adult!Pandora could SO be played by Daisy from Dead Like Me - I think I'll toss a couple of Daisy caps in your picspam. :D

Oooo, I just LOVE her dress! It's quite the dolly frock. & her little pink tights & white boots - I want to wear that combination now! :D

& even in her older years, Pandora's still rather cute - & has GREAT style still!

::glomps you:: THANKYOOOOOOU!

I love that outfit. The part-alien elder in my legacy challenge also wears it, so I felt it was perfect for Pan.

It's kickass and futuristic-looking. I hope I'll be dressing up like that when I get to that age.

I seriously admire your dedication to this project. It's been so much fun to read, so thank you for sharing it.

I agree that "The Edge of Destruction" is creepier than "Midnight." It feels more claustrophobic to me (ironic, since they're in the TARDIS), and the fact that they are all familiar with each other ups the tension (especially since their memories keep slipping in and out). And Susan with the scissors? D:

"Midnight" also shows, I think, how much the Doctor -- especially Ten -- needs a companion, someone to help him navigate the situations they're in. The companion gives him additional credibility, too, so he doesn't have to defend himself with "BECAUSE I'M CLEVER!!" (which made me cringe. Not making yourself any friends with that, dear.).

Aww, thanks. :D I've had a great time doing it & I AM going to miss it, honestly. ^__^

ALL OF THIS. Especially the fact that they were in the TARDIS & no one figured out what was wrong until the very end - one of the things that always kind of disappoints me about Midnight - I WANT AN ANSWER AT THE END, I HATE SPECULATING.

(& WHOA, Susan with the scissors - that really freaked me out, I have to say.)

I definitely agree - throughout a lot of this episode, I kept wondering how other Doctors & their companions would have handled something like this - not something like The Edge of Destruction, but something like Midnight. It just kept going through my head all through this - I think it's because I just can't stand Ten, but it is a valid, interesting idea. To me, anyway. :D

(& UGH, I HATED THAT BIT. It was NOT the right thing for him to say & look where it got him. Just . . . NO. ::sighs::)

Eee! Congrats on the completion of your degree in Two-ology! :D It's been fun seeing your recaps, especially as I've been working on my own rewatch. I hope you won't mind getting random comments from me on your past entries, as I've now just made it to about the beginning of your rewatch. (Just finished The War Machines last night and hopefully on to The Smugglers this evening!)

...this is a rather . . . well, disturbing story on some levels. It's extremely disconcerting to see how easily such a small group of humans could resort to murder & basic savagery & how fast they turn on the Doctor, even when he's trying to help & keep everyone calm...
This is what drew me into this episode. I think the direction in this story is rather fantastic. It's so well-paced and structured in that you see each moment when the entire mood changes.

Interesting, your comparison with Midnight and Edge of Destruction. They're both creepy, in their own ways. Not sure if it's just me, but Edge of Destruction always felt Twilight Zone-esque... I really liked EofD and wish that the Classic series had more episodes like it.

And I had no idea that it was David Troughton guest-staring in this episode! Sometimes I'm so clueless! I may have to check it out again, just to see him.

♥ Congrats on finishing your rewatch! I hope as you watch new serials, you'll post about them too, even if (as [livejournal.com profile] nentari said) your posts aren't as extensive as full-out recaps!

Thankyou! I've loved how you've also been doing a rewatch as well - it's been a summer of rewatch-athons! :D & I totally won't mind random comments to my recaps! I'll try & answer all of them, naturally. :D

I have to admit it, I did like it a lot more the second time - this time - I watched it than I did the first. I agree that the direction is really good for this story. :D

& yes, David was indeed in this story! I couldn't believe it the first time I found out. :D He's pretty good in it!

Thankyou again! & I will, but it won't be as interesting as my recaps, I think. :P
