. . . I still can't believe that just a couple of years ago, I never would have gone so long without updating/reading my flist/engaging in other LJ-centric shenanigans. Now it's getting too regular for me to vanish for a month or more. Sigh. Well, baby steps + fandom = regular LJ activity, right? Right!

So! I'm popping in before I start getting ready for work (opening the shop today, not being a file slave) to say hello to all of the lovely new friends I made from the Young Justice friending meme! ::waves at all of you:: It's delightful to meet all of you! I'm really rather bad at intro posts, but my big damn fannish megapost can be useful, I think. Also, my Twitter! (Yes, I love Twitter a bit more than I should, I know.) It's locked, but I'll add anyone that isn't a spam account. ♥

Hmm, so, what's new in my little life . . . not too much, really. Life's been fairly smooth for the most part, at least recently. ::knocks on wood:: I did actually start venturing back out into my (past) nightlife activities, after a long, long period of reluctance. I actually had a great time last week & I'm pretty sure I'll be going again this week.

I also saw the fellow again. Erm. That's for a longer post, but the short of it is, it was his birthday last week, I wished him a happy birthday, he said he was glad to see me & had felt kind of bad about how things went the last time we saw each other & I gave him a (somewhat sipped at, but still a valid offering) bottle of Bacardi I'd been (trying!) to drink throughout the night. Good thing he likes rum.

I also need to do a comics squeepost sometime. Mostly because I need to flail about Huntress: Year One in more than one hundred & forty characters. Also, Young Justice.

Also, Green Arrow. (Spoiler alert: the Grell era needs to NEVER EVER END.)

Speaking of all things Oliver Queen, I think I need to do another rec post in the future, but rather than a second Bruce/Wally one (because there isn't enough fic for them in the world!), I'll whip up a nice Arrowfamily rec post! They're not getting enough respect, dammitall! ::shakes fist::

Hmm. Must go get ready for work now. Then I have errands to run, which means I can't stay & spend time with Jenna after she gets to the shop, or start working on the book she's showing me how to create. (she knows a bit about bookbinding & she's teaching me how to do it. Awesome!)

I totally understand where you're coming from about LJ activity. I used to be on LJ constantly, it'd take me hours to read through my flist every day. I hadn't gone on to it in over a year, and honestly I had no intention of starting a new one, but then a friend asked if she could follow my work on LJ and I was like, "...ohhh. UM SURE LET ME GET RIGHT ON THAT."

And then the Young Justice fandom exploded into existence! 8D

I'm really hoping I can get back into some sort of consistent activity on here, a part of me really does miss it. And I've been wanting to get back into writing, so I hope this helps with the motivation.

Actually, he's a puppy - and in the literal sense of the word, as he has the ability to turn himself into a dog. :P Another of my boys is the one who is described by some other players OOCly as a "sekrit teddy bear", as he's very loud and obnoxious on the surface but underneath is very kind and adorable.

I guess you're thinking Sirius Black but no, it's not Sirius. The character in question is Rolf Scamander, who is not actually in the books but whom JK Rowlign has described in interviews as being part of canon - a zoologist who travels all over the world studying magical creatures and who marries Luna Lovegood post-books. I wanted to make Rolf an animagus, and since Callum is a puppy in every sense of the word, his only possible animagus form was a dog. The Sekrit Teddy Bear boy, on the other hand, would probably be a winged horse if he had the skills to become an animagus (which he doesn't). In case you're curious, his name is Declan McLaggen (an OC, brother of canon character Cormac McLaggen), a Gryffindor born in Northern Ireland, and he looks like this. AND YES, TEDDY BEAR BOYS/PUPPY BOYS ARE DEFINITELY AWESOME!

There's no need to feel foolish, since he's the character people immediately associate with dogs. *snugs* I love my Teddy Bear - not only have I got a crush on the actor "playing" him (and I love listening to his music), but he's incredibly challenging (and therefore interesting) to write, as he starts as a supporter of the baddies but because of his teddybearness (as well as his crush on a girl who is actively involved in fighting them) he's slowly changing allegiances. Plus he's got a great bum. :P

Don't feel like that! *pets* He is, and it's great to play with his loyalties. Take a recent example: in context, this game takes place during the final book, which focuses on Harry Potter and his friends being on the run while Voldemort has taken over the wizarding world. Hogwarts is now being ruled by Voldemort's followers, and there's a fission between the students who are pro-Potter and pro-IS (the Inquisitorial Squad, which are the students who believe in Voldemort's ideals and are treated like the elite by the new powers that be). Declan (AKA Teddy Bear Boy) joined the IS the moment it was born, as he was both raised in those ideals and he felt that by doing so he could help Gryffindor, but he's been witnessing things that are making him question his beliefs and his choices. Molly (AKA his crush) used to hate his guts, but events have made her see the teddy bear within and now she doesn't think he's as horrid as she used to; she still doesn't like him that way, but she's being friendly and being a sort of mentor in his change of loyalties. Anyway, a few days back the new teachers decided to train the students into torture and forced them to use the cruciatus curse on pets - and Declan, being a die-hard animal lover, was particularly distraught over this. He commented on a the journal of a friend who was just as shocked as he was, Molly approached him in a private comment (i.e., only the two of them can read it), and this conversation took place. You can see why writing him is interesting me so much, right?

This is a backstory log written by Hayley (Molly's writer) and myself to show to the Declan/Molly shippers how it all began.

Their first interaction in-game.

Molly and her two best friends, Nathan Boot and Yue Sung, got caught eavesdropping on the evil teachers and were given a punishment that left them temporarily deaf. This was Declan's overprotective reaction to it.

A fifth-year Slytherin and fellow IS member, Cecilia "Cece" Barbary, asks Declan out on a date. Determined to get over his crush on Molly, since she treats him like rubbish, he accepts - and the two of them soon become an item.

First signs of regret.

Molly has her heart broken by a boy, and Declan finds her crying. It's at this point that she stops seeing him as a monster, as she catches a glimpse of the Teddy Bear within.

More signs of regret.

Parvati Patil, a member of the resistant group known as the DA, is caught red-handed by Declan and fellow prefect Andrew Kirke.

Much to Declan's shock and disgust, the Carrows (i.e., the evil teachers) decide to turn Parvati into an example and humiliate and torture her in front of the other students. Afterwards, they reward Declan and Andrew for being "good little boys". Disgusted, Neville and Seamus (whom Declan was instructed to watch and bully) confront him about this, trying to intimidate him.

Molly wrote a pamphlet in support of Muggleborns (whom Voldemort and his followers wish to eradicate from the wizarding world in the same way the Nazis tried to do to the Jews), using science as basis for her defence, and was punished about it. The IS managed to confiscate most of the pamphlets, but one night Declan found one and got curious.

Declan confronts Molly about the pamphlet.

And now, Molly and Declan have a sort of secret friendship, with Molly trying to coax him into switching allegiances. This includes a very sweet Christmas present.

Declan's reaction to the present. Notice that he and Parvati are also doing a secret friendship, though in that case it's strictly platonic (Parvati is dating another of my boys).

Declan's girlfriend, Cece, decides that they should take their relationship a step further (nudge nudge wink wink) on New Year's eve. Things don't go according to plan.

I LOVE ALL OF THEM! Honestly, I love this guy to pieces. And his arms. And his bum. :P And look at my icon - isn't he adorkable?
And for more Teddy Bear pimpage, Douglas Smith is also a musician, and I love his music to pieces - not only because I think it's catchy, but also because the knowledge that he writes most of the lyrics shows me the sensitivity he has. Teddy Bear himself is a jock rather than an artist, but thanks to his PB's music it's very easy to see the artist hidden underneath - the inner Teddy Bear. :P
Here's some of his songs:

* Antarctica, by his main band, His Orchestra. I tend to link this one to Teddy Bear's relationship to his girlfriend Cece, particularly the lyrics that seem to connect with their first attempt to sleep together ("It was the strangest thing for him to ever think that one day he was to give himself to her/But for me what was stranger was the feeling of danger that I felt the moment that it occurred").
* Another His Orchestra song, Black Coffin. I like to picture this one as the theme song for Declan/Molly, as the opening verses (Keep me out of your life/I know it ain't nice but it's for the best of both of us") fits with the fact that Teddy Bear's love for Molly is such that he's willing to be away from her just to keep her safe.
* Just for the lulz, here's a public service announcement His Orchestra made using that very song. I usually hate ads against illegal downloading, as they're annoying to hell, but I love this one - and not just because of who's in it.
* besides His Orchestra, Douglas is also in another band, Alaskan Summer, alongside his RL girlfriend Ashton Lunceford (who was the "face" for Cece in my mind before my friend Orla started playing her in the RPG and decided for Nicole Anderson as PB). My favourite song of theirs is Machine of Love. The song is very cheery and sweet, and the music video reminds me once again of Teddy Bear and Cece.

I have some bad news on the Teddy Bear front: he broke up with his (evil) girlfriend, who is blaming Molly (AKA the girl he really loves), even though Molly is completely blameless, and is now plotting a plan to get even with her. I've been discussing this plot with the players of Molly and the evil girlfriend and with the game's mods, as Teddy Bear will have a noble gesture and take the fall in Molly's place - and alas, this means he'll be severely punished by the Voldemort supporters now running the school, who will see him as a traitor (he's been misguided all this time and being a student aide to them, remember), and will come out of said punishment looking a bit like this. :(

Also, the game will probably end in two months' time, as that's the point in the timeline where the final battle in the last book is to take place, but because I'm dreading the prospect of no longer playing Teddy Bear I'm trying to figure out a way to convince the mods to create a sequel game where the characters will deal with the aftermath of the battle and spend the next school year (those who are younger than Harry Potter, that is, like Teddy Bear) witnessing the school returning to normal and their society being rebuilt. Wish me luck!

Oh man, I miss Young Justice (Iiiiiimpulse!!!!!). I haven't read any of that series in years, which is sad.

Stupidly I had never read any Green Arrow until recently. Because I'm an idiot. :P Fortunately Ollie turned up on 'Smallville' and I realised the error of my ways. The Arrow Family are EPIC and I love them to bits. ♥

OMG WAT YOU DIDN'T. :P It's all good; my first real contact with Ollie was in Smallville & then I read The Longbow Hunters. Now I'm all 'FUCK YEAH OLLIE QUEEN!' & DUDE, THAT'S THE PERFECT WORD FOR THEM. They're all such awesome in their own ways. ::dances::
