::waves:: Hey everyone.
As most of you (at least all of the awesome people I met there!) know that I'm camping out at
news in protest of the SECOND attack on fandom that LiveJournal/Six Apart his us with in just a few months. And some of you may not know about it yet, so, in order to remedy that and help bring MORE people to show LiveJournal that we are EXTREMELY dissatisfied customers, here are some links that will help explain why you should join us.
- Both
likespring &
soleta_nf have compiled lists of links in LJ entries of theirs here & here & they'll contain most everything you need to get caught up.
-
bubble_blunder is hosting an open letter to LiveJournal & Six Apart, which I feel that everyone should go at least LOOK at, especially the paid members of my flist.
- I asked in the threads at
news how I should word this post &
likespring &
devilindupriest were kind enough to help me out &
likespring has allowed me to quote her comment to me.
". . . LJ was pressured by a radical conservative (homophobic, racist, etc) group to shut down a bunch of journals, LJ suspended over 500 journals based on interests with no warning, and a lot of them were fan journals, journals of people who survived rape/incest/dv/etc, and a couple literary communities like a Spanish community for the book Lolita.
LJ took a lot of time responded, took forever to unsuspend the journals, we spammed posts while waiting back then, etc. . . .
. . . they lied to us by saying they did it so they wouldn't get in legal trouble, which isn't true, and then they later admitted it wasn't illegal and they just don't want that kind of stuff in their community.
. . . LJ has suspended more journals (. . . they changed the format from a strikethrough to bold, and it doesn't show up in userinfos unless it's your own, so it's hard to notice who's been suspended). LJ admitted that the journals suspended did not contain any kind of child pornography but they just didn't see any "artistic merit" in the art."
Please, folks. YOU DON'T HAVE TO COME TO
news & SPAM, BUT PLEASE, LET OTHERS WHO MAY NOT KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING KNOW ABOUT THIS.
& lastly, my reason for getting involved, for those who may want to know.
- I have been a paying member of LiveJournal for two years. I have BEEN here five years, back when you still needed a code to create a journal. I have NEVER seen such appalling treatment on LJ's part toward it's users up until Strikethrough '07 & now this. This is POOR customer service, to put it lightly, & it is also being poorly handled. IT IS NOT ABOUT THE PORN REMOVALS. For me, it is about having a CLEAR knowledge about what IS & what ISN'T allowed here so I can either keep posting fannish works or take my things & post them elsewhere. Also, as a paid user, I feel that the concerns of those PAYING for this service deserve an explanation at the very least so that we can let others know what is going on.
Also - we HAVE tried to be reasonable with LJ/Six Apart - we've sent letters, called them, & left politely worded comments during Strikethrough & now, amidst the spam. AND WE STILL have NO ANSWER. This is AWFUL customer service.
For my flist - link to this post if you want, you don't need to ask me. Also, see
fandom_attacks for organizing our protests & viewing our next set of options.
Lastly - JOIN
fandom_counts IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.
nobelia posted this in
lj_biz & has asked ALL OF US to share it & get the word out about it. I'm adding it to del.icio.us & for those of you that also have one, I would suggest the same.
Please, people. GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THIS.
