I live.

But it's complicated.

Am currently watching the last of the Horatio Hornblower films, hence any massive spelling mistakes in this . . . Twitter-like update & HEART POINTS.

♥ LOLZ OMFG NOBODY TOLD ME GENE HUNT WAS SAILING WITH APOLLO, MR FANTASTIC, AUDIO!ALTERNATE!THIRD DOCTOR & THE EIGHTH DOCTOR. OMG THIS IS WONDERFUL. (even if I damn well hated Hobbs in the books.)

♥ BUSH/HORNBLOWER/KENNEDY. SHUT THE FRAK UP, IT'S THERE, I CAN SEE IT, & I LOVE IT. IT PLEASES ME & IT BETTER BE FLOATING AROUND SOMEWHERE.

♥ I see the HMS Pineapples & Flying Fish is well-intact, even IF it's been overshadowed ever so slightly. WHATEVER, I SEE IT. YAY!

♥ THIRD POINT WHAT FUCKERY IS THIS, but . . .

O.M.F.G PAUL MCGANN CHRIST ALMIGHTY THIS WAS WORTH THE WAIT.

UM. I THINK MY FEELINGS ON THIS POINT ARE OBVIOUS.

(& it deserved capslockery because . . . well, because it's Paul McGann. & he's quite fabulous in this, you know. Really fabulous, not just pretty fabulous. Need icons dammit.)

♥ I forgot David Warner was Sawyer in the films. Remember how I mentioned Audio!Alternate!Third!Doctor earlier? Well, that would be David Warner, who gave us a SMASHINGLY awesome alternate Third Doctor in the Unbound audio Sympathy For the Devil, which was a) a gift of sorts to me by [livejournal.com profile] voorishsign & b), got me hooked on the Big Finish audios in the first place! (& it also has Mark Gatiss as the Master, plus David Tennant, so . . . FUCKING AWESOME) I've actually been meaning to listen to that audio again, since I finished the UNIT series this weekend.

OMG, HE REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ELEVEN. OR CONSIDERED, DAMMIT. That would have been amazing. (& um . . . he does remind me greatly of Jon Pertwee. I won't lie. But he still would have been a nice Eleven, I think.)

& Sir Edward Pellew is made of pure win, book or movie-verse. He's . . . o, about second or third on the list of my favourite characters in the whole series. Actually, let's make that third if we're talking bookverse, third or fourth if we're talking movieverse.

WHATEVER, SIR EDWARD PELLEW >>>>>>> EVERYONE ELSE THAT ISN'T HORNBLOWER, BUSH & LADY BARBARA. THERE. (I almost forgot her. I love Lady Barbara, PLEASE, PLEASE, I hope she comes back after Beat to Quarters! CHICK IS AWESOME. I WANT HER TO MEET CHARLEY POLLARD & THE DOCTOR. & a perfect sort for someone like Horatio Hornblower. I continue to hate Maria.)

This was going to be two, but ah, hell to that.

So in conclusion: I AM A HAPPY FANNISH THING. I NEED MOAR PAUL MCGANN, DAMMIT. & I can get back to reading the books after this! I left off at Beat to Quarters & I have five more to go. I BE EXCITED.

LOLZ OMG THE THREE OF THEM ARE WILLING TO DIE TOGETHER THIS IS SO AN OTFUCKING3 PEOPLE.

& WHAT THEY DRAGGED BUSH INTO THE WATER WITH THEM & PROCEED TO HAVE A BIT OF A WRESTLE IN WATER CAN THIS BE ANY SLASHIER . . . wait, no one told me I'd be getting the visage of one very drenched Paul McGann in my line of sight . . . what was I talking about . . . OKAY, he's giving me a fit of wibble-lip now, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN.

Um, okay. I'm done, promise.

(Picspams to come. AS IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT WOULD HAPPEN.)

BUSH/HORNBLOWER/KENNEDY is TOTALLY there. It was my FAVOURITE (after Kennedy/Edrington which I have to admit is my OTP) and I read TONS of it except that was like three years ago so I don't actually HAVE recs but it's there. My icon says so, sort of. I mean you can't REALLY tell but it's so the three of them jumping off the cliff and being ADORABLE.

SAINTS ALIVE, I KNEW I WASN'T IMAGINING IT! ::squeals & glomps both you & your icon:: I LOVED that scene - HORNBLOWER & KENNEDY ARE SUCH MADMEN IN IT & BUSH IS ALL 'UH . . . WAIT, I CAN'T SWIM!' CUTEST THING EVER. I am SO looking up the maker of your icon tomorrow - I finished Retribution ten minutes ago (with a bit of sadness, as to what over you can guess) & I REALLY want to watch it again. & cap it. & fangirl it some more.

I NEED TO FIND FIC, SERIOUSLY. But THANKYOU for telling me that it CAN be found - I'd have been a sad kitty if it had only been in my mind.

(& believe it or not, I DO have a few icons of Bush somewhere on my hard drive, but as none of them are up, have more Paul McGann being pretty! :D)

YOU DIDN'T EITHER? THEN YOU MAY JOIN ME IN THE INITIAL SURPRISE, THEN THE 'OMFG GENE HUNT!' SQUEE. :D

OMG, I think that was one of my favourite bits of both. It was hysterical, made me a bit nervous & OMG IT WAS RATHER PRETTILY SHOT. LOVE.

::will be capping both this week with great joy::

Ooh, imminent Hornblower picspams!

I think you’d like Flying Colours quite a lot – it might be a book or two after Beat to Quarters. There’s also a Hornblower movie from the 50s that’s partially based on Beat to Quarters; it has Gregory Peck as Hornblower and is pretty good.

Possibly MORE than a few picspams, love! ::bubbles:: I promised a friend of mine long ago that she'd have a Hornblower/Kennedy spam when I saw the first four, but I think a Mutiny/Retribution picspam has to come first. ::looks innocent::

O, I'm DYING to read Flying Colours - it sounds insanely good, as does its predecessor Ship of the Line - I think I shall procure both this weekend. I've missed reading the series so much! & ooooooooo, thankyou for the rec! :D

I KNOW! More slashy goodness than one can easily handle. And Paul McGann. Yelling. Oh, yes.

YES, YES, & MORE YES. ::swoons onto nearest soft surface::

THE YELLING. O my giddy aunt, how that did a number on my heart. A BIG number. It was most pleasurable to hear!

(& icon twins, whee! I still need a couple more Paul icons though, but really, YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH IN MY OPINION. :D)

I love the cliff scene. It's my favorite. And the end just about kills me. :( Also? You know you're watching someone phenomenal when they can play a complete overbearing raving madman AND make you sad for him at the same time. I cried in his last scene. Damn, David Warner. You rock.

The cliff scene was just WONDERFUL all around, in SO many ways - fangirlishly, cinematographically & everything else. :D It's easily one of my favourite moments in both films.

& because I was happily unspoiled for the ending, THAT ENDING WAS A COMPLETE SUCKER PUNCH TO THE FACE. SUCKER PUNCH TO THE FACE & TO THE HEART. But it was quite beautifully done, I must say.

Also? You know you're watching someone phenomenal when they can play a complete overbearing raving madman AND make you sad for him at the same time. I cried in his last scene. Damn, David Warner. You rock.

I AGREE COMPLETELY WITH THIS COMMENT, YOU BET I DO.

It's funny - Sawyer kind of scared me a bit in the books, as did Hobbs, to a certain degree, but David Warner made me feel for Sawyer, he really did. His last scene was just . . . it hit me a LOT more than I'd expected it to. It had power, it really did.

& a bit randomly, the bit where he mistakes Archie for someone he knew a long time ago, who was dead then - that was when I started to really feel sympathetic toward him. I just found that scene rather touching, in a very sad way.

::GLOMPS YOU::

YOU COMPLETELY, COMPLETELY DID. & I THANK YOU VERY MUCH. As SOON as I'd finished Sympathy For the Devil, I WANTED MORE BIG FINISH. But of course, it was a bit before I did. BUT THE TIME WAS WORTH IT.

YOU SHOULD!! I've given you both the audios Mark Gatiss wrote, I think, & if I remember properly, you're fond of Turlough & I have another audio of his, which has werewolves in it, by the by, but I have to listen to it myself, actually! ::laughs:: But I think you'd like a few of the Eight audios - the Neverland & Zagreus ones are two I think you'd love, & maybe a few in the Divergent arc, but that might confuse you if I just gave them to you totally cold.

UM. ANYWAY. Should you ever want any, I'M PREPARED. :D

& BACK TO THE POINT, have you by chance heard any of the UNIT audios? David Tennant's character is an integral part of all four audios & he doesn't even actually SHOW UP until the last one & he's FUCKING AMAZING in it. & the Brigadier makes a few appearances, but the UNIT audios are Doctor-free. HOWEVER. STILL WORTH LISTENING TO. :D (but I think you'd have to listen to the first three for the last one with David in it to make full sense.) I think you might like them.

FABULOUS! I'll see about uploading them for you - there are four main stories, plus a prologue - the prologue's great too & has the Brigadier being TOTAL AWESOME in it, even though it's fairly short compared to the rest of the series (not even a half-hour, while the stories are usually a little over an hour).

& as to your question, I actually have NO idea. But after I learned that the Unbound range is sort of an alternate universe for the Doctor, where some things happened, some didn't, some happened totally different, I'm going to say it COULD be a pre-Sympathy one, or set DURING the UNIT audios, which makes a bit more sense to me, or it could be totally unrelated. But when YOU get to hear them, you'll probably have a better assessment than I do. :D

I knew that Who friending meme was a good idea. :D You like Hornblower too! Aren't Mutiny/Retribution the best? Re: cliff-jumping, Bush wailing about not being able to swim always strikes me as so adorable. He's all tough and shouty and likes to threaten the crew, but then in the water he's so rubbish. xD

I've been reading the first few books and I wish we'd seen drunk!Bush in the show, because it would have been hilarious (and spawned so many fics). And well, I just fancy Paul McGann too, to be honest. :B
