riverdresses: (5-D • not a place that Polly hasn't been)
O, splendid, splendid day! ::spins about::

As it turns out, my stylist, who'd said she'd be in 'any time after three' wasn't in at all, thereby leading to a very disappointed Betsy. (but the walk up there was nice; the barbarian & I chatted about sixties fashion & mod & she told me her first minidress was bought from a boutique in the Upper North Beach area, where all the mod shops were. I think hers was an Alexander Danskin, or someone named something like that!) The barbarian said we should just go somewhere else & have my fringe done, but I was really reluctant to let anyone snip bits of my locks off that wasn't my stylist that I've been seeing since I was a tiny lass - since I had my very first fringe done! (which was super-curly, like my hair, & I think, much shorter than I would have it now. There's a picture of it somewhere in the house, I think.)

In the end, we decided to have dinner first & look at a couple of hairdressers that were nearby. The first place neither of us liked, the second was appointment-only, but the third one, I pointed out & it was a hit! So I popped in & asked if they could take me as a walk-in, which they could, I showed them my pictures of Anneke Wills & Jane Birkin & poof! I was in the chair & making cheerful chatter with my very nice stylist who has a house in the country, regular three-day weekends & luckily for me, had a client stuck in traffic on the bridge, so he could see me! He gave me a few lovely pointers on trimming my fringe (though I think I'll keep this with the professionals!) & only charged us five dollars for my whole cut, plus a card.

Five dollars & I look quite dolly with my fringe! I absolutely love it & it looks great with the plaid shift, which I wore again, as I wanted to see how my hair would look with one of my dresses. I took a nap earlier, so it dried a bit & is a bit waved-looking, but it's my fab, rather sexy, if I may say so (but it's just my opinion!), fringe!

(& my hair could use a bit of a washing & re-straightening, so it'll probably look even more dolly when my hair's in better shape.)

So I succeeded in finding a secondary stylist & didn't wind up like some poor birds who go in with aspirations of glamour-girl hair & leave looking more scary than sexy, which is what I was so afraid would happen! IT'S WONDERFUL, ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! My fringe! It's perfect!

Not to mention, we took my white boots to the cobbler's, the price to have my heels redone & my boots cleaned was far less expensive than we'd expected & I'll be picking them up next Wednesday. ::spirals about with happy::

Also, the barbarian's letting me play with her Bumpits hairstylers to see if they'll work for me, so I can get a pair of my own.

Now for the uninformed, or the loves with just shorter hair & therefore no need to do much with it, Bumpits are these styling tools that give your hair more volume & a bit of a shape - you tease your hair, put one under what you teased, whip out the hairspray (do you know I don't own any of my own hairspray? I'm surprised, but then again, I never had much of a use for it until now), spray it in place & ta-da! Sexy volumized hair! It also comes with a little style & use pamphlet & a teasing comb & they have them in several colours, all in three sizes per set: red, light blonde, light brown (hers), dark brown & black. She says dark brown is probably what I should get, since that's my hair colour, despite the fact that some people think my hair is actually black. It's not - it's very dark brown, but in the sun, you can see it better & also see the (natural) red highlights in it.

It's cheating a bit, I suppose, not doing a proper huge Amy Winehouse-esque beehive, but I still think these would work with my look - you can wear them in quite a few different ways!

Anyway, now that I have my furiously fab fringe, I promise there will be a few pictures of it, me & my fashion collection! I just need to wash & restyle it a bit so it doesn't look all dirtyish - I'd been expecting a wash at the stylist's, but ah, was not to be. Nevertheless! I can do that myself!

Also! It's Labour Day weekend here in the States & Canada, I believe, so I'll be recapping the final story for the great & mighty Troughton rewatch-athon tomorrow & devoting Sunday & Monday to the little wrap-up party!

(honestly - I've really been a busy lass all week!)

& I'm listening to Doctor Who and the Pirates right now - Six being a 'fine, distinguished sailor with a stylish outfit!' ::giggles madly:: I love it!

(O! speaking of Six, I think I've found what Japanese fashion niche he'd fit into, or at least the closest I could find - he makes me think of the brand Takuya Angel! Takuya Angel combines traditional Japanese fashion elements with a more futuristic, loudly-coloured look. Six has a traditional look, very classic sorts of lines, but he's very brightly coloured & fun-looking at the same time. He's like an explosion of colour, like a devotee of Takuya Angel! So he'd be probably thought of as an Angeler, as fans of the look are known, in my opinion.

& someone totally needs to write Six & Peri in nineties Harajuku & getting photographed for FRUiTS magazine. But I can't take credit for this idea - it was all [livejournal.com profile] vrrrrt's! I just tossed miss Peri in there because she'd be cute, I think. But what look would she sport for the day?)

I live.

But it's complicated.

Am currently watching the last of the Horatio Hornblower films, hence any massive spelling mistakes in this . . . Twitter-like update & HEART POINTS.

♥ LOLZ OMFG NOBODY TOLD ME GENE HUNT WAS SAILING WITH APOLLO, MR FANTASTIC, AUDIO!ALTERNATE!THIRD DOCTOR & THE EIGHTH DOCTOR. OMG THIS IS WONDERFUL. (even if I damn well hated Hobbs in the books.)

♥ BUSH/HORNBLOWER/KENNEDY. SHUT THE FRAK UP, IT'S THERE, I CAN SEE IT, & I LOVE IT. IT PLEASES ME & IT BETTER BE FLOATING AROUND SOMEWHERE.

♥ I see the HMS Pineapples & Flying Fish is well-intact, even IF it's been overshadowed ever so slightly. WHATEVER, I SEE IT. YAY!

♥ THIRD POINT WHAT FUCKERY IS THIS, but . . .

O.M.F.G PAUL MCGANN CHRIST ALMIGHTY THIS WAS WORTH THE WAIT.

UM. I THINK MY FEELINGS ON THIS POINT ARE OBVIOUS.

(& it deserved capslockery because . . . well, because it's Paul McGann. & he's quite fabulous in this, you know. Really fabulous, not just pretty fabulous. Need icons dammit.)

♥ I forgot David Warner was Sawyer in the films. Remember how I mentioned Audio!Alternate!Third!Doctor earlier? Well, that would be David Warner, who gave us a SMASHINGLY awesome alternate Third Doctor in the Unbound audio Sympathy For the Devil, which was a) a gift of sorts to me by [livejournal.com profile] voorishsign & b), got me hooked on the Big Finish audios in the first place! (& it also has Mark Gatiss as the Master, plus David Tennant, so . . . FUCKING AWESOME) I've actually been meaning to listen to that audio again, since I finished the UNIT series this weekend.

OMG, HE REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ELEVEN. OR CONSIDERED, DAMMIT. That would have been amazing. (& um . . . he does remind me greatly of Jon Pertwee. I won't lie. But he still would have been a nice Eleven, I think.)

& Sir Edward Pellew is made of pure win, book or movie-verse. He's . . . o, about second or third on the list of my favourite characters in the whole series. Actually, let's make that third if we're talking bookverse, third or fourth if we're talking movieverse.

WHATEVER, SIR EDWARD PELLEW >>>>>>> EVERYONE ELSE THAT ISN'T HORNBLOWER, BUSH & LADY BARBARA. THERE. (I almost forgot her. I love Lady Barbara, PLEASE, PLEASE, I hope she comes back after Beat to Quarters! CHICK IS AWESOME. I WANT HER TO MEET CHARLEY POLLARD & THE DOCTOR. & a perfect sort for someone like Horatio Hornblower. I continue to hate Maria.)

This was going to be two, but ah, hell to that.

So in conclusion: I AM A HAPPY FANNISH THING. I NEED MOAR PAUL MCGANN, DAMMIT. & I can get back to reading the books after this! I left off at Beat to Quarters & I have five more to go. I BE EXCITED.

LOLZ OMG THE THREE OF THEM ARE WILLING TO DIE TOGETHER THIS IS SO AN OTFUCKING3 PEOPLE.

& WHAT THEY DRAGGED BUSH INTO THE WATER WITH THEM & PROCEED TO HAVE A BIT OF A WRESTLE IN WATER CAN THIS BE ANY SLASHIER . . . wait, no one told me I'd be getting the visage of one very drenched Paul McGann in my line of sight . . . what was I talking about . . . OKAY, he's giving me a fit of wibble-lip now, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN.

Um, okay. I'm done, promise.

(Picspams to come. AS IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT WOULD HAPPEN.)
riverdresses: (dw ☄ eight ;; time will waste you)
The first cup of China Gunpowder green tea + Withnail & I = inexorably linked in my mind.

(I think it was because I drank so much the first time . . . okay usually whenever I'm watching it. Or rather, I like to write my Eight smut with that a cup of that tea by my side. It feels very right, somehow.)

snip.whinge.snip.whinge. )

So, as you imagine, I took it well, even if I was pretty insulted by being offered fifty fucking cents for three DVDs I'd never WATCHED AT ALL, so I was in a very bad mood for the rest of the day. I feel a little better now - tea & a watching of Withnail & I while picking Eight porn up on Teaspoon will do that for me, but still.

Sigh. I really could have used that money. Fuckery.

&;

I'm finally back into the swing of Eight audios! I stopped literally halfway & seven minutes into The Last, but I finished it yesterday & last night/this morning, I finished Minuet in Hell & today, started Caedroia.

The Last )

Minuet in Hell )

Caedroia, quick thoughts )

& because I got around to snagging . . . a few pictures from a LEGENDARY picspam [livejournal.com profile] infinitejoys did of all the Doctors (ALL OF THEM) in non-Doctor roles, I'd like to share a few of Paul McGann looking quite lovely in some of my favourites.

(& in the last one . . . he makes those specs look rather sinister. OR, he looks like he's playing something of a very Humbert Humbert role . . . WHATEVER, I'M NOT OVERLY INTERESTED IN SPECIFICS, EITHER WAY, IT IS SEXY. & no, most of those caps aren't still open in my tabs, why would you think that?)

BUNNY/KITTY SUMMIT '09 BEGINS SATURDAY AFTERNOON. ::FLAILS & DIES FROM EXCITEMENT::

'cause I know I'm the cursed one. I know I'm meant to die. Everyone else can watch as their dreams untie, so why can't I?

ASDFTGHJKL;'LKJHGFDSA O MY FUCKING CHRIST, MY COPY OF THE WITHNAIL & I SOUNDTRACK ARRIVED TODAY!!!

I came home, in an inexplicably bad mood, to find a card from [livejournal.com profile] geeky_webmaster (o, thankyou bb! & I adored reading your letter! ::kisses::) & a little package that felt vaguely CD-shaped. I assumed it was The Dreamers soundtrack, which I also have on the way, but I opened it & it was the copy of the Withnail & I soundtrack that I ordered last week.

MY DAY, IT WAS MADE.

(now hopefully my book will arrive tomorrow, opleaseopleaseoplease!)

Also, I've become addicted to listening to Violet Blue's podcast open source sex. (it can be subscribed to on iTunes, which is where I get it, or found here & NO, that site is not worksafe. Just a warning!) VIOLET BLUE, MARRY ME, FOR YOU BRING THE GEEKINESS & AWESOMENESS TO THE SUBJECT OF SEXY THINGS.

One in particular also, I think, revived my interest in getting back to work on my Sarah/Romana/Eight fic. A PLUS FOR THE LADY VIOLET. Seriously, I love her.

I'm also thinking of doing two things: a) a nice, big, link-stuffed Jamie McCrimmon picspam. BB IS NOT GETTING THE LOVE HE DESERVES & WHY THE FUCK AREN'T PEOPLE WRITING MORE TWO/JAMIE PORN? (I went through eleven pages on Teaspoon & found a bit of nice smut, but THERE.SHOULD.BE.MORE.)

& b) a friending meme! Specifically, a Classic!Who friending meme. (I thought of doing an audio friending meme, but I'm not sure how that would pan out. So I'll combine them because, well, to me? One through Eight are fucking classic Doctors, people. DON'T EVEN ARGUE.) We need something to get through the year with, so we should be making new friends. ::nods::

Though does Alt!Nine count? I don't think he does, alas. So he doesn't get included. (OMG I want to see Scream of the Shalka so bloody badly.) But yes, CLASSIC!WHO FRIENDING MEME, COMING SOON TO AN LJ NEAR YOU.

& lastly, how about a few fabulous links for you bunnies?

Scans of the 1965 Edward Gorey illustrated book 'The Recently Deflowered Girl'

Saving these scans tomorrow when I have a decent connection again. O, Edward♥ (my favourite is 'Deflowerment at Seance' - that would be a dream come true! But I'd not ask for Rudolph Valentino - Lord Byron or Percy Bysshe Shelley would be more my speed, thankyouverymuch.)

TuTu Crazy

Instructions on making your own tutu!! Something I NEED to do, as I don't have one & the only place I knew that sold them is no longer around. ::sadface:: Can't you darlings just imagine me sitting in a chair, eagerly typing away on Marwood, whilst wearing a fabulous maybe fannish-inspired tutu? (hmm . . . but WHAT fandom would it be if I went that route? ::ponders::)

The M.A.C. Hello Kitty makeup & accessory collection went live today. NOW RUN DOWN TO YOUR NEAREST M.A.C. STORE OR MAKEUP COUNTER & BUY, BUY, BUY, PEOPLE!!
(& would you lovelies believe I still have a fandom-fashion influence post to write up? Such a scatterbrained girl, I am, such a scatterbrained thing!)

Actually I might have two - my go-go boots would play a role in it if I did! Hmm.

(p.s. - it would be great if I stopped being a lazy arse & got back to work on my Marwood fanmix. Dude, I FAIL.)
riverdresses: (four+romana ii ;; this will be infinite)
Mmph. Two posts tonight. Possibly. (shhhh.)

Fanbunny things first!

☀ ☀ ☀ [livejournal.com profile] morgaine22, in honour of S5 of SGA premiering this week, has been holding an week long SGA party at her LJ! She just capped the week off with this absolutely adorable John/Rodney fic (plus a manip!): Rodney Has Cheeseburger - McSheppy KITTY crack of PURE FRAKKING AWESOME. ALL OF YOU. GO. READ. COMMENT. THEY ARE CATS, GET YOURSELF OVER THERE.

☀ ☀ ☀ HOW DOES EVERYBODY FEEL ABOUT A BIG OL' BILLIE PIPER LIP!SPAM? You like that? THEN HERE, HAVE THE SEQUEL FEATURING DAVID & BILLIE LIP!SPAM ACTION AS BROUGHT TO US BY THE INDOMITABLE [livejournal.com profile] katrina87! [livejournal.com profile] alli_everyday, GET YOURSELF OVER THERE ASAP PLZ.

☀ ☀ ☀ A brief stopover in the Supernatural fandom brought me this: What Kind of Day Has It Been?, by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool. Crossover, Supernatural/Muppets. YES, PEOPLE, SUPERNATURAL/MUPPETS. BEST CROSSOVER EVAR, YO.

☀ ☀ ☀ Have procured a bit more vintage!Who for myself! Just one serial, as I couldn't afford City of Death (read: I's a cheap kitten) & the two places I went to didn't have Genesis of the Daleks. WHAT THE HELL.

But not to despair! I got Robot instead! Now excuse me while I get all capslocky with HAPPY.

- ZOMG HARRY!! (yes, I HAVE to double the exclamation points, my love for him has grown at least five times bigger than before) UNDERCOVER!HARRY! & SARAH! HER CLOTHES OMFG. I want all of them. Or at least bits & pieces of them. & ASDFGHJKL;LKJHGFDSA FOUR. GUH. Just . . . GUH. LOVE LIKE WHOA OMG. (& yes, my Harry/Sarah fangirlishness was quite high when they were locked in the room together. HARRY/SARAH WHEE.)

- Also? I LOVES THE BRIGADIER. He is AWESOME. & Benton is TEHLOLZ. I love his totally obvious crush on Sarah. Aww, is cute. Also, I think I could like UNIT. I'd taken them to be cold-hearted, evil, Doctor-hating bastards, but they couldn't be more different! (Well, at least what I've seen so far.)

- DUDES, FOUR. I am kind of NOT KIDDING when I say that he could possibly overtake Ten as my favourite Doctor. Just . . . I can't describe it, but I adore him! O, wait, maybe I can - he makes me think of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. He has that sort of playful, nonsensical aura around him, or at least that's how I see him a bit of the time. He's the sort of fellow you could totally imagine at one of the Hatter's teaparties, isn't he? He would bring the jelly babies, of course, & maybe a tale or two while you wait for your tea to cool.

Also, I see a lot of Four when I look at Ten. It's quite wonderful, really. Ten, though, is far more dreamlike than Four is, I think. More ethereal, in some ways. When he talks, I think. Not in the hyperactive way he usually does, but in that quiet, serious way he has. I see Four in him most of the rest of the time, especially when he's with Rose & Martha & wearing that utterly mad grin on his face.

Ten is a bit of restless starlight. Four is the earthier point of origin. Ten is a bit more spacefae, Four is just a little more fey.

::giggles:: O, listen to me, talking as if I know anything! I'm such a silly girl.

☀ ☀ ☀ I suddenly have a fierce desire to make a mixthing for Harry Sullivan. HE IS NOT GIVEN ENOUGH LOVE, BUT HE DESERVES IT.

& now, the girlishness! (the discussion of the Four/Sarah smut I may or may not have found will be saved for another time.)

☀ ☀ ☀ I discovered the cutest blogthing today! Cocoa! It is simply the sweetest & loveliest blogs that I've come across in recent days. So many lovely & inspiring articles!

Alice in Wonderland style! O, I want! (I really must get started on clearing my trunk out & making room for pretty, proper clothes.)

Dressing Like Your Heroes - I am just in.love. with this article! Though I have been doing this when the weather's good - my riverdresses & Four-inspired style! (O, I just loved that outfit. I must recreate it!) All of you, go, go see it!

Sweet & Sour Girls - hee, a perfect way to describe moi. I mean, really, just look at this post. ♥

How To Throw A Smashing Tea Party - I'm actually expressly forbidden to have people visit my (rather drab) home by my father, but I would simply love to throw a proper tea party! This is the sort of social entertaining that I am not at all adverse to!

(hmm. I really want to have a Hello Kitty picnic in the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park this summer. 'Tis a pity that I have no one to invite to one!)

Alice In Wonderland Photoshoot by Annie Leibovitz.

::giggles:: I'm mostly posting this because the last picture reminds me of Ten in The Girl in the Fireplace! But isn't it just a lovely world nonetheless? & I also found this gem linked in Miss Penelope's comments!

(lost in wonderland)

I felt that this deserved a mention all its own, it's that beautiful.

♥ & lastly, an interview with Miss Penelope herself!

☀ ☀ ☀ I've been doing a spot of reading lately, though not nearly as much as I did in my younger years.

I finished Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood this morning. I quite liked it, very much, in fact. It was beautiful, but with such a thin, yet piercing layer of sadness to it. Up next is South of the Border, West of the Sun. I'm also rereading Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which is fantastic & sexy, all things such books should be. I can't wait to see Billie in the role!

I also find that it's time for me to reread Lolita again. (of course my lusting after the Fourth Doctor has inspired this, whatever did you think?) I miss that book greatly. & I've an urge to see the original film again. (I've a copy of the 1997 version, but I've not seen it since I was fourteen, I think.)

☀ ☀ ☀ & lastly, have a song!

(& I do want to say thankyou to everyone who commented on my last post. You are all so lovely & I just don't deserve you all. ♥♥♥)
