'And don't call me 'Duchess'!

O, splendid, splendid day! ::spins about::
As it turns out, my stylist, who'd said she'd be in 'any time after three' wasn't in at all, thereby leading to a very disappointed Betsy. (but the walk up there was nice; the barbarian & I chatted about sixties fashion & mod & she told me her first minidress was bought from a boutique in the Upper North Beach area, where all the mod shops were. I think hers was an Alexander Danskin, or someone named something like that!) The barbarian said we should just go somewhere else & have my fringe done, but I was really reluctant to let anyone snip bits of my locks off that wasn't my stylist that I've been seeing since I was a tiny lass - since I had my very first fringe done! (which was super-curly, like my hair, & I think, much shorter than I would have it now. There's a picture of it somewhere in the house, I think.)
In the end, we decided to have dinner first & look at a couple of hairdressers that were nearby. The first place neither of us liked, the second was appointment-only, but the third one, I pointed out & it was a hit! So I popped in & asked if they could take me as a walk-in, which they could, I showed them my pictures of Anneke Wills & Jane Birkin & poof! I was in the chair & making cheerful chatter with my very nice stylist who has a house in the country, regular three-day weekends & luckily for me, had a client stuck in traffic on the bridge, so he could see me! He gave me a few lovely pointers on trimming my fringe (though I think I'll keep this with the professionals!) & only charged us five dollars for my whole cut, plus a card.
Five dollars & I look quite dolly with my fringe! I absolutely love it & it looks great with the plaid shift, which I wore again, as I wanted to see how my hair would look with one of my dresses. I took a nap earlier, so it dried a bit & is a bit waved-looking, but it's my fab, rather sexy, if I may say so (but it's just my opinion!), fringe!
(& my hair could use a bit of a washing & re-straightening, so it'll probably look even more dolly when my hair's in better shape.)
So I succeeded in finding a secondary stylist & didn't wind up like some poor birds who go in with aspirations of glamour-girl hair & leave looking more scary than sexy, which is what I was so afraid would happen! IT'S WONDERFUL, ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! My fringe! It's perfect!
Not to mention, we took my white boots to the cobbler's, the price to have my heels redone & my boots cleaned was far less expensive than we'd expected & I'll be picking them up next Wednesday. ::spirals about with happy::
Also, the barbarian's letting me play with her Bumpits hairstylers to see if they'll work for me, so I can get a pair of my own.
Now for the uninformed, or the loves with just shorter hair & therefore no need to do much with it, Bumpits are these styling tools that give your hair more volume & a bit of a shape - you tease your hair, put one under what you teased, whip out the hairspray (do you know I don't own any of my own hairspray? I'm surprised, but then again, I never had much of a use for it until now), spray it in place & ta-da! Sexy volumized hair! It also comes with a little style & use pamphlet & a teasing comb & they have them in several colours, all in three sizes per set: red, light blonde, light brown (hers), dark brown & black. She says dark brown is probably what I should get, since that's my hair colour, despite the fact that some people think my hair is actually black. It's not - it's very dark brown, but in the sun, you can see it better & also see the (natural) red highlights in it.
It's cheating a bit, I suppose, not doing a proper huge Amy Winehouse-esque beehive, but I still think these would work with my look - you can wear them in quite a few different ways!
Anyway, now that I have my furiously fab fringe, I promise there will be a few pictures of it, me & my fashion collection! I just need to wash & restyle it a bit so it doesn't look all dirtyish - I'd been expecting a wash at the stylist's, but ah, was not to be. Nevertheless! I can do that myself!
Also! It's Labour Day weekend here in the States & Canada, I believe, so I'll be recapping the final story for the great & mighty Troughton rewatch-athon tomorrow & devoting Sunday & Monday to the little wrap-up party!
(honestly - I've really been a busy lass all week!)
& I'm listening to Doctor Who and the Pirates right now - Six being a 'fine, distinguished sailor with a stylish outfit!' ::giggles madly:: I love it!
(O! speaking of Six, I think I've found what Japanese fashion niche he'd fit into, or at least the closest I could find - he makes me think of the brand Takuya Angel! Takuya Angel combines traditional Japanese fashion elements with a more futuristic, loudly-coloured look. Six has a traditional look, very classic sorts of lines, but he's very brightly coloured & fun-looking at the same time. He's like an explosion of colour, like a devotee of Takuya Angel! So he'd be probably thought of as an Angeler, as fans of the look are known, in my opinion.
& someone totally needs to write Six & Peri in nineties Harajuku & getting photographed for FRUiTS magazine. But I can't take credit for this idea - it was all
vrrrrt's! I just tossed miss Peri in there because she'd be cute, I think. But what look would she sport for the day?)

Date: 2009-09-09 07:42 am (UTC)& well, yes, their name is a bit unfortunate, but you can always hyphenate it in your head. :D
