riverdresses: (☂ hello sixties kitten!)
FIRSTLY! Since I haven't been updating much, I haven't had a chance to let m'dearest [livejournal.com profile] nentari know that I received a lovely surprise in my postbox recently! Will you forgive my sloppiness, sweetheart? I adore my book so much & I'm very touched that you sent it to me. Thankyou so much, love! ::hugs you::

It's been indescribably hot here for the past four, nearly five days; as in ninety degrees right here in San Francisco. It's been so intense that I can barely sleep at night & I've been getting rather dizzy & headache-y at night. It's been lovely out, but just too hot.

Went to lunch with the lovely girl I work with & my physician/boss/neighbour. She said the office had been doing so much better, so we could celebrate. It was a very nice lunch in a very nice cafe & the three of us had a splendid time. I also learnt a touch about wine with a few sips of a rather nice white wine. & happily, it didn't taste like furniture polish or make me want to cringe after I tasted it.

(I'm really bad with wine, actually; I sort of hate it. Champagne or something cute & mixed for me please! Or a Guinness.)

Speaking of being out & about with people, I think my own return to nightlife is going to be a lot sooner than I had originally thought it would be. Ideally, I would have liked to return this very week, but I think I'll give it perhaps a couple more weeks, if not just one more.

I'll probably feel the mad sense of panic when I'm actually on my way there, but right now . . . I don't feel any of that. Rather, I feel kind of excited to go back. White Zinfandel & Gauloises on Thursdays again. ♥

Also, I have a question for my dears! Does anyone use GOMPlayer to screencap things? KMPlayer's display kept fucking up when I tried to cap my Smallville DVDs & of course, VLC is kind of useless when it comes to screencapping, I find, unless I want to do it all manually, which I don't.

GAAAAAAAAAAAH, WHY IS SCREENCAPPING SO FRUSTRATING FOR ME. ::growls::

& curiously enough, [livejournal.com profile] wordsindreams has suggested that I return to Twitter (I've rather abandoned it) & well, I'll be seeing everyone there soonish, I do believe! At least my Twitter app will get a little use now . . .

Only now am I getting caught up on my fandom-fashion posts. Or post, rather, but nevertheless, at least I'm getting caught up.

This time around, my influence was by one of my favourite films of ever, Withnail & I, specifically, by Withnail. Fashion-wise, he had the best style out of everyone in the film - very dandy, very vintage, very posh, while at the same time, looking like a total drugged-out mess. But he did it with style, & a style I loved. So I decided to give his look a go!

(& yes, there's a small element of Marwood's style in this outfit, but on the whole, if you don't know better, you might not be able to find it. I do cover it at the end, however)

♥♥ NOT DIAL-UP FRIENDLY! ♥♥

Screencaps by yours truly, you're most welcome to take if you like! (especially if you're planning on making graphics out of them - MOAR WITHNAIL & I GRAPHICS IN THIS WORLD PLZ.)
I'm thinking my next fandom-fashion go will be a mashup between Polly Wright & Jo Grant - go-go boots, miniskirts & hmm, maybe a sweater. Or that ugly turtleneck my father gave me for Christmas . . . but a Polly&Jo fashion mashup would be fabulous, no? & that plaid coat would go great with those styles!

Or maybe a Victoria Waterfield look, post-nineteenth-century dresses . . . good excuse to break out my plaid skirt & sweaters . . . hmmm . . . so many inspirations to pick from . . .

Huh.

Sometimes, I don't like updating. (I'd rather read what the actual interesting people I know have to say!) Mostly because I never think I have anything interesting to say & that I just take up space on everyone's flist. But here I am, updating anyway! ::has no self-control apparently::

♥ I'M OFF TO SEE NEIL GAIMAN IN JAPANTOWN ON OCTOBER THIRD OMGWHEE! ::squeals like the sillything she is:: I'm actually not sure if it's a proper signing or not, but even if it isn't I don't mind - NEIL GAIMAN, PEOPLE!!

(& even better is that I don't need to take my mummy, since it's during the afternoon. YAY NOT HAVING TO DRAG HER ALONG AGAIN!!)

Now the big question is OMG WHAT DO I WEEEAR? (principle-edict-rule number four of being the silly miss Sundayshape: When you know in advance that you're about to be within twenty or less feet of your idol/god/object of worship/crush/goddess/heroine/hero/inspiration, DRESS THE FUCK UP OMG. Now is NOT the time for bland dungarees & an unflattering top; make an effort & make yourself look fantastic!)

♥♥ I had a bit of a mishap with my hair recently. My hair was in desperate need of a trim, so I trimmed the ends off all neat & pretty & I shortened my bangs so that they actually looked the way they were intended to. That came out well. Then a few days later, I trimmed a bit more off one side & um, I sort of trimmed it rather shorter than the other side. So I have hair of two different lengths on each side. I'm not sure how noticeable it is, but it's probably somewhat noticeable. It's still fairly long, just . . . one side goes down my upper arm & the other one ends a little below my shoulder.

Yes, I'm aware that I probably look like a complete moron with my hair like that, but I don't want to fuck it up any more, so I'm going to let the shorter side grow out, then when both sides are long enough so that I can cut them a bit & still keep them at a nice length, I'll even them out.

Currently, I'm sort of like, 'o, whatever,' about it - I'm always ugly/unpretty/stupid looking, so what does this matter? I just look a bit worse for a time. Been there before, nothing new. & plus, it's not like I hacked my hair into David Tennant-esque spikes, so what's to be freaking out over? Hair grows back in time, nothing to panic over. Just gotta be patient & that's it.

(although if I had a figure like David's, or like Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I'd actually think about doing that. Rock-pixie hair is SO pretty!)

EDIT: Just straightened my hair out & it actually isn't that dramatic a difference - maybe half an inch's difference. I could just even it out now, but I think I'll just wait to do that anyway.

♥♥♥ OMG ELISABETH SLADEN IS ON THE COVER OF THIS MONTH'S DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE OMG. I saw that the new one was out earlier this week, but I had to wait until I got my ticket before I could run off & get it. OMG LIS LOOKS LOVELY. ::flails:: My (two*) copies are on my table now, but I can't read them until November, when series four débuts on region one here in the States. PATIENCE, SUNDAY. PATIENCE.

(actually, this issue has four different covers - I just saw Lis on the cover of this set, but there are three other versions, I think - [livejournal.com profile] backinblackk, did you know Julian Bleach is on one of them? He is!)

*I usually get two copies of some magazines so that I can read one, then chop up the other one for collages & whatnot. Doctor Who magazine is one of them. Art, not just me being completely cracked in the head!

♥♥♥♥ The Four/Romana smut that hides in my bookmarks seems to have increased in quantity lately. OOPS. except not, omg why isn't there mooooore? & for that matter, where the FUCK is all the Four/Master? COME ON! I mean . . . THIS JUST ISN'T RIGHT TO BE LACKING.

♥♥♥♥♥ Most go & straighten out my hair now. I'm a bit tempted to leave it all curled & wild, as it is if I don't straighten it, but then it just looks like steel wool has been curled up & been glued atop my head. So I must apply the hot ceramic & oils to make it look halfway presentable.
