riverdresses: (☂ the ephemera of existence)
O, goodness! It's been so long since I've done one of these, but we have a linkspiral to share!

♥♥ It’s Time For Top Ten Sexy Geek Nominations!

Violet Blue's posting her yearly call for the sexiest geeks for 2011! I ♥ Violet Blue's blog; fun, sexy & informative about everything related to sex that you can imagine. Got a question about some obscure, shocking sexual act? Violet's the bird to ask about it! (& all of that should tell you that her site is really, really, not worksafe.)

♥♥ Anne Boleyn B Necklace - Gold-plated Edition

I just died when I saw this - ever since I was a young fourteen-year-old who was madly obsessed with the history of the Tudor dynasties & saw my first portrait of Anne Boleyn, I've coveted her beautiful B necklace. Since everyone calls me Betsy, I too can wear the B! (& here's the luxury edition!) Also, there's not just that, but there are replicas of so many pieces that were worn in The Tudors & not just by Anne - go look for your favourite wife! Not to mention all of the other goodies there, & the fact that the entire site is also a full resource about the lovely miss Anne Boleyn & her life. Go have a look!

♥♥ The anatomy of snowbirds

Here, have some Neil Gaiman looking like 'a Jewish ninja' & being wrapped up in a v. Four-esque scarf & actually looking quite like Four. ♥

♥♥ [untitled]

Skylark talks (not) writing down dreams.

♥♥ This Year’s Top Hot Sex Books for Gifting, Coveting

'My personal library has overgrown several six-foot-tall bookcases, and books are piled tastefully all over my flat. They are all very naughty books.'

O, so, shameless, lady Shelley . . . but what's winter without a bedwarmer for yourself? ::giggles:: Violet Blue does just what it says on the tin: suggests some of the sexiest books to gift for your holiday of choice! She covers nonfiction, short story collections & photo books. (Also, here is another v. saucy gift guide of hers just recently posted!)

♥♥ Logan White photography

A treasury of beautiful, sexy truly stunning photography I discovered via Violet Blue this week. Not worksafe at times, but definitely worth a full look around. I'm in love!

♥♥ We wants it - Radhost Complector

O, darlings! Like a round, holdable, magickal TARDIS! Go! Feast your eyes upon this!

♥♥ Leopard.

Carrie of WishWishWish has a new leopard coat - she looks perfectly Edie Sedgwick in her snaps! This would be the sort of leopard coat I want - the sort I can wear as a frock with black net tights, just as Edie did sometimes. ♥ Alas, the place she got hers from does not ship outside the UK & Ireland, otherwise I'd have looked at buying it for myself. Sob!

♥♥ Marie-Antoinette’s android: the dulcimer player

Don't you see a bit of Doctor Who fic in this item, sweetlings? It could be a bit to reminiscent of Girl in the Fireplace, but with the right writer, you never know . . .

♥♥ Dead Drops (vimeo)

'‘Dead Drops’ is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. USB flash drives are embedded into walls, buildings and curbs accessible to anybody in public space. Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data. Each dead drop is installed empty except a readme.txt file explaining the project. ‘Dead Drops’ is open to participation.'

This feels so sci-fi & yet, so . . . I can't quite find the word for it, but I can feel what the word means. The actual word just eludes me at the moment. But isn't this fascinating?

♥♥ Magical See-Through Doorknob

A bit space age, a bit magickal! Can you imagine how it would look if one side was dark & the other side of the knob was bright & lit up? It would feel v. Coraline-esque!

♥♥ Twenty Unique Bathtubs

Honestly, give me a pushable, moveable clawfoot bath & I would be the happiest lassie about. But nevertheless, some of these baths are just exquisite! I've actually seen one similar to the Evok bath when I was in Lake Tahoe one year! Alas, I didn't get to sit in it. O! ::pouty:: But I'm just in love with the Library Bath & its exact opposite, the La Scala Whirlpool bath! Which are your favourites?

I've a few other things to write about, one more real lifey, one fannish & one more ponderous, but I'll save them for a bit later. ♥

O my stars & garters, it's been a time since I've done a linkspiral, hasn't it? Well here, have a huge, supermassive fannish, fashion & lovely linkspiral, lovecakes!
☂ A surprise wedding reception as shown to us by Katie of Color Me Katie! I adoreadoreadore such an idea & if my state hadn't decided to be such a humiliating blot on civil rights, I might have contemplated doing something like that myself!

☂ Ingrid of Fashion is My Muse writes about an enchanting visit to an embroidery school/atelier & the work she created whilst there. Schools devoted to embroidery! I can hear all of the princesses & Lolita devotees swooning now!

☂ The effervescent miss Gala Darling shares with us fifty amazing alternatives to the traditional 'dinner & a film' type of date - o, if only I could try just one of these out with someone! & she borrows a line from Withnail & I! O, GALA, MY DARLING! ::sighs happily::

☂ Now some, if not most of you, know I'm a considerably serious dieter, but even I couldn't resist teasing you lot with this delicious confectionery post from Luphia loves . . . of course! Dieter damsel, yes, but sweets are rather lovely to look upon, no?

☂ A lovely set of posts have been posted recently over at NineteenTeen which are all about flirting with props! In order: Flirting with Props, Part One: Handkerchiefs. Flirting with Props, Part Two: Gloves. Flirting with Props, Part Three: Fans. Flirting with Props, Part Four: Parasols!

(which reminds me - summer is nearly upon us & I must replace my parasol & acquire a decently elegant fan for my handbag! & if you didn't think I used a parasol when weather permitted, then you must not know me very well!)

☂ Violet Blue is, aside from one of my favourite local personalities/sex blogger & author, is back & beautiful, motherfuckers. ♥♥♥ I loved this post, so naturally, I'm including it here. (& nope, not worksafe, folks!) Seriously. She's pretty damn inspirational to me. I love her work.

☂ Carrie of Wishwishwish introduced me to Nothing Elegant. As a paper & stationary addict, I am just in love with . . . everything in that shop! I WANT IT ALL. Fab writing gear, wouldn't you agree, loves?

Cloud Watching from Skye of the princess portal brings us this lovely post at her new blog. ♥♥♥

(this morning the sky was full of cotton ball clouds after the rain of last night. Cloud dreams, cloud girls, o, I wanted to stop to take pictures of it. It was a perfect Wednesday morning sky.)

☂ Gala Darling's being a complete dollface by showing (& asking what in ours!) what's in her bag!

(goddammit, I want her Gauloises! You can't get them here in California, apparently. What?! & I must do a similar post over at From Out of the Rain.)

Neighbourhood glamourbombing by Katie of Color Me Katie!

(I do think this will be a summer project for me, my darlings. Stars, hearts, quotes, jewels, all over the city! & I heartily encourage you lot to try & do the same!)

☂ This post is so stunning that it needs no introducing - Still Water as given to us by Skye of the lost princess.

Dreamy & chic as posted by Tina at Luphia loves is . . . oooo, I just want to slip inside those pictures & live in that misted, hazed wonderworld.

(do I dare save these pictures? they could be lovely icons . . . )

Introducing... Isobel Oval!

I ♥ Gala's mind. Such posh lushness!

the dream cookies of Color Me Katie - o, pleasepleasePLEASE, someone, figure out how to make such lovelies! I'd break my diet just for a few!

& o, I swoon over the last picture - yes, a perfect lipstick!

Moondust from the lost princess.

(I wish I had the ability to leave shimmer everywhere I went. Leaving it on one's sunglasses, from one's eye makeup isn't quite the same, alas. Not heavy shimmer, but light, soft trails of it, so if you needed to find me, you would literally, only have to follow the stars.)

☂ the lovely miss [livejournal.com profile] marah_sarie did an amazing bit of fanart featuring Zoe Heriot in a Star Trek uniform - CHECK IT OUT, FOLKS!

& you all TOTALLY know Zoe would rock one of those uniforms. O yes.

☂ & last but in NO WAY LEAST, [livejournal.com profile] hoshinekoyasha did one hell of a Charley Pollard picspam, bbs! GO. LOOK. I COMMAND YOU. YOU WILL OBEY ME.

(my personal favourite is this particular drawing - a lovely rendering of miss Charley Pollard!)

'. . . but it proved to be a wet, ungenial summer . . . ' were it not so late, & I not so lazy, I would rise, make myself tea, & write of things to be done on this sort of night in my diary.

1:01 AM Jun 3rd from web

I do wish it was raining again tonight. If it was, I would write in my proper diary for a bit by tealight, or just lie down & enjoy the silence. Silence is so rare in my life, I think. Yes, I don't generally want it; as it can make one so uncomfortable, but there is the rare occasion where I do want it.

I like to work by candlelight, generally. Little lighting suits me well, unless I need the overhead lighting. I don't know why, really, but v. little lighting suits me & helps me create better, somehow. I hate harsh, bright lights.

[livejournal.com profile] wordsindreams sent me a lovely package recently! She's managed to convince me to see the film version of Master and Commander, instead of reading the books first, as I would normally do & I'm rather looking forward to it! (though one day, I will read the books, of course. It'd be something of a sin to only see the film!)

I've also been attempting to tidy the tea & time room a bit - it's become a pit, really, hasn't had a real cleaning in ages.

& just as I find my sewing table, I find that I have no space for any more books. Literally, piles & piles of them are on my sewing table, because I've not figured out where to put them!

Perhaps I can use Marwood's carrying case - I don't take her anywhere, & she doesn't leave her table, so perhaps her carrier can hold some books for me.

& I may repost bits of my linkspirals at From Out of the Rain soon, but I would like a bit more content up first. I'm just being shy & reticent about posting anything - I'm always convinced everything I do is simply rubbish.

abandon hope all who enter here

Elizabeth (Betsy). Twenty-two, almost twenty-three, but perpetually seventeen. Whirls back & forth between vulgarity & delicacies like a dervish proper & has been known to disappear for months on end. Worshipper of Carroll, devotee of Lovecraft & BPAL hoarder absolute. Destined for the madhouse.
